Motorway patrol program tonight - TVR on camera
Discussion
Did you see Motorway Patrol tonight? The cop pulled up someone in a Black TVR Chimera convertible for speeding. Was it any of you lot? Great to see they put up a small argument about how fast he was going. Thought this person was quite polite on the whole. Knowing a max fine would have been issued I would have ranted big time. The guy pulled away with foot to the floor to rub it in and a nice sounding motor too
I can't get the search to work at the mo but I'm sure one of us admitted (about 6 - 9 months ago) that they were about to become a minor celebrity
Unless it's my rapidly failing memory I think I suggested asking Ted to host the footage on PH TV.
"187 kph Officer? . . . I must have been stuck in third."

Done last Sunday in the Elise $230 for 129kph near the Paramata roundabout. The cop in question was dead straight so a case of thank you sir may I have another was called for!
30 points and don't even have Kiwi licence yet!
In the UK I'd of got a ticking of if the police could even be bothered but I guess I've got a bit to learn about NZ cops.
I'm sorry to say that for an Ex-pat Brit, your experience is stereotypical. Talk to Venom on these forums, or do a searchback. From what I understand, MANY years of driving around in the UK (including a couple behind the tiller of an 800bhp Chrysler Viper!!!!) with a clean license. 4 Months in NZ driving around in his hundrum Mitsubishi Diamante wagon and he's on the verge of losing his licence!!!!!
Cops in NZ have NO concept of "discretion".
I've been lucky... had a single speedcamera fine about 4-5 years ago, and that was just unlucky and being in an unfamiliar car. Since then I've been clean, despite being a bit of a hooligan at times... more due to good luck than good behaviour.
Mind you I drive like a grandma most of the time, try to keep my hooliganism to times and places where I'm unlikely to encounter danger or the law. I bought a Valentine V1 for christmas and while it's yet to actually save me from a fine (because I've not really been driving in a fine-inducing manner) it's given me extra peace-of-mind and insight into how and when/where the law lurks. I consider it essential equipment now.

Esprit said:I am reliably informed that many (on the road) do have a concept of discretion but they have been specifically instructed (on pain of dismissal) that they may not exercise more than a certain very small degree of discretion. At various times this has been 10%, 5%, 8kph . . .

Any video evidence that I have posted of said hooliganism was done on a racetrack. Any videos of me doning ANYTHING on a public road was perfectly legal and legit.
The videos you saw of me doing the exhaust tests on an empty stretch of road were all done at below 100*
* cubic fathoms per hectolitre parsec squared

only 30 points? have they changed something then? may last year I got caught at 122kph just after passing someone (in good conditions) and that stung me $170 (plus $30 court costs once I got screwed around by office cops who wouldn't answer my letters) and 35 demerits. it'd be a joke if it wasn't so serious, the cop that issued mine didnt even try to pretend there was any connection with safety, just gave me the ticket and sent me on my way.
b*stards. still, at least they stay away from the gravel back-roads
It was March/April last year when I had the Chim.
What really pissed me off was I was cruising out to the track making sure I wasn't going over 120,they must off busted me when I blipped it to overtake.
Got stage fright and forgot all the things I wanted to say about how f*ucked up the policing of our roads are here.
Wasn't a bad exit if I say so myself.
