The time-worn arguments of ineffective public transport will be mooted probably for all but the North Shore who now have a brand spanking new park and ride scheme.

Regardless, it looks like you'd have to find at least $30 per week to have the privilege of enjoying your own flatulence without inconveniencing others (unless you're walking or biking).

Christ!!! Mind you its was only a matter of time and has been in the pipe line for a while. Wonder how many people will dust off the push bike? If it affected me everyday I would consider biking to work (if I was handyish).

Welcome to Hubbard's world, a land of marvellous progress through going backwards at 100mph.

This is nonsense and surely can't get past stage one. Don't get me wrong - I'd be in favour of it if there was a viable alternative to driving to work every day but there isn't.

I used to catch the bus quite regularly when I lived in Mangere Bridge. The buses were dreadful, old, smelly wrecks that went all around the houses and cost over $40.00 a week to use - how much would a 1.0litre Starlet cost to run each week?

I have no real alternative now that I live in Drury. I guess in theory I could ride a bicycle to Papakura and catch the train into Newmarket. That would be good if the service ran past 6pm and didn't cost an arm and a leg to use - and it was even close to being reliable (seems they inherited BR's period work ethics along with their 70s rolling stock!).

I always find it unbelievable that there is no pedestrian access from the shore - would it really cost that much to clip on a footpath/cycle lane to the bridge?

I think Mr Hubbard should stick to what he's best at - Cocoa Cornflakes!

I see that now, if you live in the city, or at least within the congestion charging boundaries (like we do) they want to charge you $3600 per year to garage your car within these boundaries. Regardless of what miles you do... that means that me and my gf (3 cars between us) would be paying over $10000 a year between us in these charges alone!!!!! Given that of these cars, only ONE of them is driven at rush hour and contributes to congestion (I drive outside of rush hour in my daily driver and the Elise is only used on weekends and sunny afternoons) it's bloody ludicrous... I DARE them to implement this, I've always wondered what it'd be like to see a million angry kiwis rioting in the streets.

Everyone who voted Banksie out of council must be kicking themselves now..... I'd LOVE to be Banksie's campaign manager for the next local body elections... that's the definition of the easiest job of th world

I'd rather be his Policy Advisor, that's the easy job. He'll have his Campaign Manager working 168 hours/week

Exactly.

To me the answer to Aucklands transport woes is stop so many people living in auckland.

It was a huge hassle for me finding a job in Christchurch, The ratio was probably 100:1 if not more in favour of auckland,

But now Im here I can cycle to work in about 10 mins or walk in 35. Seems alot easier than sitting in Auckland traffic for several hours a day

That's a bit alarming, George. We currently have 4 cars-only because nobody seems to want to buy a saab convertible for ANY money on Bleed-Me.
I suggest that you/we get charged per parkable metre. Thus my Fraser -only slightly longer than a Smartcar- would prove itself sensible (if not smart) for the first time in its life!
Do I have to pay to park my boats too?

I think that IF this ever went ahead there should be a supplementary regulation to provide for a dramatically reduced fee/tax/levy (like 10%) for a second / third etc car registered to the same owner with limited km per annum.
