Yay finally got it back!! If ya havent guessed what it is, its my new engine cover minus the trimmings. It weighs in at 1.2kg. I am not doing it for the weight savings, its purely just a cosmetic thing. But for those who are interested I will weigh the old lid before I pull it apart and weigh the new one with all the fittings on it to compare.

IMO it looks great. I just have to source some new rubbers and heat shield for the back, fit the other pieces on it an its all go!!

Top class job.... now, how about doing the entire body like that? Look on the bright side... you'd save money (and weight) on paint, not having to paint it black :P

Hmmm have you seen this? Looks very tidy www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motors/Cars/Lotus/auction-48203262.htm

Might be your car's sister car

It's not an SE is it? Although it has the SE wing on the back. Would this one be carbied or injected?

Aarrhhh, never met him, but Simon has and sold him some of my CF B pillars which you can kinda see on his car. I have seen his car before I think he may live round Parnell?

His car is far from original as you can get!!! If its a 92 as he claims it will have fuel injection, charge cooler added as std. But what I noticed is that hes added early 1988 side skirts and front nose. The wheels clearly aftermarket and the interior has been modded with the black inserts in the centre console. The added rear mesh by the number plate IMO looks like $hit but each to their own eh btw no offence to owner if you read this, purely one's opinion!!

But hey its a good looking car and if you didn't care about originality its not a bad buy. Offerings of $45K would be my top mark I would pay for it.

Kevin MacLeod (u met who built the Porsche LeMans)did the lay-up and Tony Ingrams (ATM Concepts) staff did a coat of clear for me. A fine effort. I was too chicken to lay the CF in the mould for the fear of stuff ups and having to fork out for it as you know its not cheap stuff. I think Kevin had two gos at it to get it right. Its a work of art!

Hi heres an update on the lid in the car, its minus the metal grill fittings that cover the hole. Looks kinda cool looking into the engine. Am undecided whether to fit these or not mmmM!

The car advertised on TradeMe. Interesting car. Someone has been doing their own form of customising on it huh?
Dunno about the perforated back peice though.

I dont think its an SE. Why? Because the front driving lights are under the parking lamp which is where the oil cooler intake duct is. Also the SE had a walnut dash, but this could have been replaced.
Hmmm and the rear engine hatch only has a 'half' glass on it. That was only used on the N/A cars of the late 80's. It also has the N/A engine cover on it as well.

The lower rear valence at the back covering the exaust has the slotted one used on the N/A model as well ......

Anyone think it was a cosmetic jobby on an N/A car. Could have a turbo in it, but that may have been an engine transplant.

The only thing relevant to a late car is the wing mirrors.

Perhaps someone may have seen this car to confirm what it 'was'??

PS Kylie - I weighed my engine cover and its 5.7kgs complete ....
