Wellington drive
Discussion
Anyone interested in a drive somewhere on Saturday?
Seems that the Auckland PH'ers arrange stuff, but haven't seen one in Wellington in the posts.
A few ideas
1. Castle Point
2. Round Lake Ferry
3. Makara
4. Eastbourne (has to be early to avoid the SUVs driving slower than the speed limit )
My VX coupe will probably turn back into a pumpkin on the 7/3, WOF day (it's failed every WOF so far and I don't have an alternative)

Nothing to do with your Wellington run but I just wanted to say I've always fancied a Volumex coupe. Does yours have the factory Recaros? Most, if not all of the ones I've seen in NZ have the standard seats fitted. What's that all about?
Lovely cars, sure to appreciate in value. Cheers!

No Recaros, it seems that unlike the UK, Recaros were an option here, probably because of the price. Red Book lists the HPE VX price as $40000 in 1984, dropping to $36181 in 1986. Have seen one other VX in Wellington with Recaros.
They are fun cars, but definately not recommended as your only transport, after 20 years everything starts wearing out and parts are scarce.
So maybe the weekend of 25th/26th or 4th/5th to Castlepoint? (depending on weather or how busy people are)
From Wises map website, it's a about 167km from Lambton Quay to Castlepoint.
As for the name of Castlepoint -
From www.wairarapanz.com/castlepoint.html "Castlepoint was named in 1770 by Captain Cook who was struck by the similarities of Castle Rock to the battlements of a castle."
Looks like perfect driving weather this weekend.

Seems I shall miss you by a couple of months, but at least I know what Castle Point looks like
I was out there last Sunday, it was so windy I could hardly stand up. A few policemen as well stopping log trucks and new road surfacing (leaving stone chips on the road may be cheap for them but I wonder how much it costs motorists?).
Incidentally it wasn’t a PHer driving the magenta/purple Lotus 7 replica (Westfield probably, very nice car and even had the “7” grill on the front) and lady beside along the castle point road was it? I saw a lovely dark green one a few weeks back down on the Hutt road.

Burn some Caltex for me...
