Importing Lotus 7 Rep to NZ
Discussion
Hi there,
I am planning to bring a Lo-Cost which is a Lotus 7 Replica back to NZ May this year. I have had a look on the NZ govt AA website for the info sheets and requirements for importing and registering the vehicle but I cannot seem to identify which ones are relevant for kitcars.
The car was SVA'd in England in 2001 and is currently on a UK "Q" plate.
I'd appreciate any information you can give me on which documents I need and basically where to start as I don't want to leave it behind!
Cheers

Go to www.lvvta.org.nz ,should get the info you require, contact there is Tony Johnson.
There is also the LTNZ / LTSA website but I've lost the address at the mo.
Have a read of a few of the previous threads as a number of important issues have been covered such as de-registration, proof of length of ownership, steam-cleaning the 'spiders' out of the wheel arches . . .
You will need a certifier at this end. Which part of the country will you be landing in ?

I don't want to appear rude - but I wouldn't bother. There are plenty of lo-cost type cars already here ranging from genuine Lotus 7s thru Caterhams and Westfields to the very nicely built and local Frasers. By the time you've paid for shipping, certification and no doubt replaced a zillions components that don't comply you might as well have just bought one here.
Good luck though, whichever way you decide to go!
