Southern Festival Of Speed - Dunedin
Discussion
Hey, i'm just wondering if anyone here is coming to next years street race (official site: www.dunedin-tourism.co.nz/sfos/ Dunedin Race: www.dunedin-tourism.co.nz/sfos/street_race.html ) in February? Either to race, display their car or just spectate - hopefully it doesn't rain like last year (i forgot my jacket, got soaked and had to go home).
I'm trying to organise/help organise a car display for the car club i'm in (Southern Skylines, topic here: http://southernskylines.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=11 ) seen as it is completely free for car clubs to display.
Hoping to get a parade lap around the track during the lunch break, even if it is a slow crawl.

Thanks, no idea how i got here though - i forgot already.
Do you go to the racing every year? I started going about 2001 i think, didn't go one year though.
only been here for 2 years (doing the uni thing) but have been there both of those. Also spend a fair bit of time out at rally stages during the otago and catlins rallies. (among others)
Yep and I'm looking forward to it already. hopefully gonna watch some of the hillclimb (up 3 mile hill) on the saturday as well, should be good fun. my folks were at the festival of speed classic race meeting at levels last weekend and it sounds like theres quite a few more cars this year, some impressive machinery involved
nope, don't know that one but will have to go see sometime
to get to 3 Mile Hill you go up Taieri Rd from the Kaikorai Valley/Stuart St intersection, then just follow that for a while, it becomes 3 Mile Hill and winds gently up the hill before winding not so gently down the other side towards Mosgiel. the hillclimb is run up the Mosgiel side of the hill.
if you go to www.cityofdunedin.com/city/?page=searchtools_gis and open the 'webmap' feature, 3 Mile Hill is the windyish yellow-coloured road coming out to the left of Dunedin City itself.
(And the alternative route round it, Whare Flat, is a stage of the Otago Rally and very fun - when it isn't rutted to hell by logging trucks)

Kylie your thinking of blackhead. Where all the local boy racers go to prove their car does xxx ks cause its steeply downhill
I will still be there one way or another but my car is far from finished. Drove it home from the exhaust shop tonite but ill be towing it across town for my mechanic mate to look at it.
Normally when you put an exhaust on instead of open headers its supposed to get quieter(guessing its cause headers have developed a crack where they bolt to block. Normally a 4 cylinder car dont run on 3 cylinders (think its a blocked jet), Normally a car dont idle at 3,000rpm even though the idle screw is backed right off
Anyway I rambling. Getting far to close to the weekend for me to be having so many problems

Does anyone here have a car transporting trailer do they? The gearbox in my Skyline is about to go, and it is a 4WD automatic one. I got quoted about $65 from some trailer rental place in Kaikorai Valley, but it seems a bit much to me.
Could tow it, but i've never been towed before, and it could muck up the 4WD somehow. :s

Thats the one!! Couldn't think of the name. We went cruizing out there at xmas time and theres a new development block out there where the locals go nutty over the decorations on their house's.
