I'll be pleased to see you. I've only been here since August. I'll be sharing a rented house with my parents in Karori for the next 6 months. The housing market is overpriced with lots of experts predicting that house prices will fall so we are watching and waiting for a while. Some areas of Wellington all ready have. My tools and personal posesions will be here in a couple of weeks time so if you need a hand with anything while waiting for your stuff let me know.

What did you have in mind, a blokes-looking-at-engines-in-a-car-park type meet, or something more social like a few beers of an evening?
Cant go wrong with cars and beer! Even better though would be a beach, beer and BBQ event? Frantic driving first of course.
Is there going to be something going on around Christmas? Unfortunately studies are going to be keeping me busy until then. Would love to meet you all though, we seem to have attained enough of a critical mass down here now to support a get together.
Edit: I wouldn’t buy to strongly into the house prices dropping, ultimately New Zealand still has an expanding population. Although no doubt that prices will stabilize at a more reasonable level, particularly in urban areas.

So are you guys getting together to practice your pōwhiri to welcome Iain A at the airport next month ?
As George can tell you when he gets back from the long weekend, these things tend to drift around a bit until someone grabs the Lambo by the horns and proposes a date, time & location to meet, a way-point to pick up late risers, and a destination (for lunch ?).
That puts a line in the sand and people can say whether they're available or not, or suggest a change of date or destination.
Best of luck.

Well, I'll start the ball rolling by proposing a place - the Chocolate Fish cafe at Scorching Bay, Miramar. The coast road is fun to drive, there's nice scenery, a decent beach, plenty of car parking, etc. The only downside is it can get a bit busy at the weekend, and I guess we're looking at either a Sat or Sun.
HI
It is all sounding good.. Looking forward to the welcoming party at the airport
Just waiting for the visa to be stamped in my passport then I can tie things off here and get on the plane. It might be in Nov.. it might not...
The car will arrive in a box a few months later I guess.. then it will be all hands on deck to get it on the road.
Interesting what you have to say about house prices... I don't have anything set up yet and thinking about wether to rent or buy... Guess I just need to get there and have a look, but will need to have something by the time the big box arrives.
Mmmmm Chocolate fish

Generally property prices never fall - you might get a bit of temporary fluctuation but that's about it! I read an article recently that stated on average for 600years in GB house prices have risen by 10% per annum! Don't know how they worked that out but I guess it MUST be true!
Just work out where you want to live, find out how much the property prices are when you are looking and off you go. Chances are you'll be there for a few years at least and you'd be unlucky to lose money. Most of the houses in Auckland that have lost money are those in the multi-million price range where speculators were artificially hiking prices by luring in rich and gullible foreigners!
Of course, if you're in the multi-million-dollar price-band then this all goes out the window!

Hi there guys
I'm up the Kapiti Coast, and would like to meet up as well. Problem is that weekends are pretty busy between now and Xmas for me, mainly getting my garage and garden finished. The garage is nearly there, just need to finish the drive way so I can get the TVR out for it;s weekly polish and turn over, ready for when it's legal to drive. Just 14.5 years to go!
I work in Welly central, so always willing for a beer at lunchtime during the week?
Don - how's you little project going?
Cheers
