Street racing cars clocked at 230km/h

Two cars were checked racing at 230km/h on Dunedin's Southern Motorway during peak traffic yesterday.

Police decided not to chase them.

Who do we know in Dunedin

You'd be lucky to hit 23.0 km/h during peak-hour traffic on Auckland's Southern Motorway.

They must have a better excuse, every one who cant keep up says that. Would this be part of the “Getaway in Dunedin” video collection?

well the newspaper this morning said the only ID the police got on them was "a black sedan", cops were heading other way so no way to turn round and chase. was 5:40 PM according to the paper, but it really can't have been that busy, or 230kph on a 2-lane motorway would be impossible.

ps it wasn't me either, the old wagon can't go that fast

so thats the new fairfield bypass bit? Going north? Probably a couple of local bogans racing up the saddle hill bit and then not backing off at the top

I always used to be pleased if I could hit the tonne by the top of saddle hill. Mind you the old HQ's and XB's I owned would always struggle to keep over 50mph at the top Not to mention my 850cc mini!

Hey venom500, nice article in NZ Hotrod on your car. Photos taken by Wingatui racecourse??

cheers

My mate from the car club i'm in apparently knows one of the cars that was doing over 230 k's on the motorway - was a black Nissan Maxima i think? I don't know too much about it though so don't quote me.

It would be very easy to get those sort of speeds on that motorway, my car could probably only do 220 km/h (or 180 if it has a limiter, never been faster than 175 so don't know!) but theres no way i'm ever going to try it.

And yeah, it would be safe to say the rush hour down here would be 'considerably' more rushy than Aucklands version.

I think you mean 175 metric clicks . Just to get this straight we promote safe driving on this site, no matter what the speed limits are. We prefer to keep a low profile and not to draw attention to ourselves.

Yep, i understand that fully. I don't intend on doing those sorts of speeds again (of which i did them ages ago), i much prefer corners over speed anyway.

That's a bit harsh Speedy'

Clearly what Mustang-Man meant to say that he once did 175 kph during a Track-day which is at least 74 kph more than he has ever done on the open road.

Or a disused runway, or a private road or a dry lakebed or salt flat etc etc etc

Or a . . . brand new toll-motorway before it is opened to the public.

I've got my bid in to take some local dignitaries for a run up & down ALPURT B2 in a few years time.

Not very P.C. but you never know your luck.
