..... ok I'm used to Auckland weather being unpredictable at this time of year ..... well any time of year really and I know this is just one of those things you expect... but this weather lately has been REALLY pissing me off..... there's only been ONE day where it hasn't rained in the last month and I'm sitting here writing to you now from work because at my flat we have no power or phone (lines blown down), we have two broken windows and our roof has started to lift (letting the hail and rain in)... it's CRAZY..... Thank god my beloved car lives in a concrete bunker!

Its not just an Auckland thing the weather has been screwed up everywhere.

Today its absolutely pissing down, just got back from Mcleans Island Swap Meet and got soaked. Yesterday my dad was there and managed to get sunburnt.

Not forgetting a couple of weeks ago when it was snowing

I want summer

I'll trade you for the recent weather in Dunedin (although the sun is out right now). Thursday it was pissing down and about 5 degrees out, my absolutely least favourite weather possible. That was a nasty bike ride I can tell you!

We just had this massive gust of sideways hail, wind, thunder and lightening that rattled every nail and tile in the house, was quite a sight and a bit scary. The funny thing was 3/4 hour earlier I went for a jog up round the parks. Made it back just in time. Its been a real shocker and making it hard to plan an outdoors kind of day. The lotus is scratching down the door trying to get out for a blast too. Seems to be a five minute wonder out in the country and back home these days

I’ve been up in Palmerston nearly all week working and looking at houses/attending auctions, there has been a few wet days but nothing like what you are describing. Great weather over the last couple of days!

Nah, the landlord lives next door so it's ok he's onto it... he's doing rennovations next door so he sent his team of builders over to board up the windows.... we only strarted losing some roof tiles off the corner of the house before the builders managed to get on the case and they've now put a huge cargo-net type thing over it to stop further damage... they'll repair it (so I'm told) in a few days once the weather's calmed down enough for them to be up there safely.... we probably got the worst of it as our house is REALLY exposed in that direction... no permanent damage done... jsut bloody scary that the winds have been that bad when the weather forecast said it'd be "blustery".... I'd hate to see what their definition of "severe" winds are!

Our house sits right in front of the Orakei basin and the harbour to the north up the purewa valley.... seems to act as a bit of a funnel because I think our gusts were around the 130km/h region.... when I left there this afternoon, standing was damn near impossible

And I thought we had it bad here in Welly! It's been raining on and off for over a week, but is surprisingly un-windy...for now...

I heard yesterday that a ship had broken it's moorings and hit the old Mangere bridge. The quoted speed of that gust was 190kph!

I was taking down the last few panes of glass out of our greenhouse yesterday! Not pleasant when you have three panes in your hands stuck together with silicon and one of those gusts catches it! I probably should have waited but I'm an impatient sod once I start a job!

On the plus side my water tanks are completely full!

Does Auckland (or NZ in general) ever get REALLY bad weather? As in hurricanes (or whatever you call them in this part of the world)? Worst I have seen so far is a bit of flooding and a few tornadoes. Heck in Dunedin the worse I have seen is a couple of heavy downpours, its such neutral weather compared with Vermont (which isn't really all that volatile).

Too right. A Hurricane in the southern hemisphere is a Cyclone.

They usually pass by just off the coast rather than hitting land full on. Cyclone Bola was a real though and had me working for weeks on repairing slips.
