What is it about IT staff ?

A new one came into my office today, saw some of my pics of the Westie and asked 3 questions. The first 2 were very common :

"Is that yours ?"
"How fast does it go ?"

The third one floored me :

"Can you get Spinners for it ?"

For some reason the look I gave him caused him to leave rather than wait for a verbal response. :hehe:

Right up there with Elise owners being asked :

"Is this a Honda or a Toyota ?"

LOL, usually the cocky ones ask how much to own one. If the person is rude towards the marque, usually a sum of $400K upwards shuts them up

The other good one is :

"Of course the good thing about this car is that over 270 kph you can't get clicked by a speed-camera."

I should have added that if they're under 25 there's not a lot of point in saying :

"The old Stig drove one of these around the Top-Gear track faster than the Pagani Zonda."

Most don't watch Top-Gear. Very few know what a Zonda is. And none of the know what I mean by "the old Stig".

As for the Spinners, I saw a pop-up once that had sterling silver spinner ear-rings for sale . . . Not sure how fast the convertible would need to be going to get them to spin.

I’m sure the spotty teenagers down at “mag and turbo warehouse” would oblige.

I went into the Workshop where my Westie lives a few months ago and there was a disturbing blue glow coming from underneath . . .

A couple of the apprentices had run some wires from a battery-charger and thrown some neons they'd pulled out of an import on the floor.

They knew I was coming and wanted to have a little fun at my expense.

How difficult is it to import a UK 'kit' car into NZ?

I know theres an NZ based 7 builder but it looks old skool and I think I'd rather import a built (or diy) caterfield (or buy an atom if I can afford it).

Or even a 2nd hand 7 or some type, tho I gues that may be harder than a new one?

It certainly can be done but it's not easy.

There is a local importer of Atom's who definitely knows about mark-up

Westfields can be done - fair bit of work though.

The Catering-Vans production numbers might be over 200 per year which would be a problem because you then don't qualify for the LVVTA system.

That the reason that TVR's struggle.

It's probably a lot easier to import a kit and build it here than importing a ready-built kit. Either way it's a good idea to talk to a compliance engineer.

The same dealer that imports Lotus, Zonda and Marcos also imports Caterhams (or certainly used to). They didn't seem to have a problem but there again they're importing Noble's too and they produce more than 200 cars a year and do not crash test - go figure.
