Possible Pistonheads (of NZ) NATIONAL WEEKEND?
Discussion
Ok from what I posted in anoter thread, it got me thinking, it'd be great wouldn't it to have a Pistonheads National weekend.
I was thinking of suggesting Taupo as their track is cheap to hire so I've heard and it's beautiful around there with plenty of good driving roads. It's halfway up the North Island and as such gives the Wellington crew a chance to meet up and join in and possibly people from further south if they were really keen.
Taupo is usually available for hire on a Friday so it'd be a Friday/Saturday/Sunday weekend. Trackday on Friday, maybe a bit of socialising Friday night, perhaps a convoy up towards the mountains or something on the Saturday before everyone goes their separate ways towards home on the Sunday? To me that sounds like a weekend of heaven! A perfect way to explore some roads further afield than those around Auckland.
Obviously we'd have to book the track well in advance and plan well ahead so this will be towards the end of the year or even later maybe, but could be well worth it if we get enough interest. NZHonda club are having a similar thing this weekend, they've got 30 cars for a trackday today and the cost was like $30 each for the day!!!!! Even with only 20 cars for the trackday that'd be insanely cheap still and give enough track time for everyone to have a good blast. Given that it's a whole weekend it'd be a great way to REALLY get together and socialise and put names to faces, especially to those that have been unable to attend the events that we get around Auckland springing up from time to time.
If you people are interested in the prospect of this, I'll get in touch with Taupo raceway and see when they're free and we can start chucking dates around and then start organising what promises to be a CRACKING weekend!

Wow... lot of Enthusiasm already! A list of weekends to avoid would be good.... might have to get in touch with the organisers at Taupo raceway and see if I can get a list of Fridays that the track is available to hire.... don't see why this can't work with plenty of planning and lots of time to give people the chance to book it into their schedules

Sounds like a good weekend George. It's still some time away, but it would also be worth considering a trip to the Whittakers Classic at Manfield on the 12 - 13 November.
Ooh I like the way you think..... I was intending to go to this event anyway, been there in the past and never been disappointed

Funny how when Aucklanders about about National events, it's always up their end of the country.
I suppose at least it's south of the Bombay hills!
And leaves out half the country!
If it happens sometime in February or later, I might be interested. Might be able to scrounge up an interesting car from work. Will just have to make sure to pick up my helmet when I go back to the US for christmas (one more darn thing to add to the list!)
