Anyone pickup the Top Gear NZ? Seems like a lot of dated material rehashed for the NZ market, but looks nice. What do the locals think? (since I ain't no local, I am a Yank).

I thought it was pants.
About half of an issue of Top Gear UK (not a great magazine itself), with some contrived local content.
James May wrote a special editorial - about Australia!
I'll stick with EVO thanks.

We were discussing this on the NZPC boards.... I've not read it but I'll go with you Richard.... nothing I've read comes CLOSE to EVO

Yeah, its pretty sad.

All of the editorials were worthless. Clarkson talking about his iPod, James May spitting out useless facts about NZ, and then ranting about Australia, and yet never saying a thing. Then some chick talking about buying a used car and how bad used car dealers are yet never saying anything useful.

Oh and the best was the guy who just said that guys shouldn't drive because they get into accidents at a higher rate. Thats smart, tell your audience (guys that like to drive) in your first issue that they shouldn't bother driving.

Oh and it had several typos and errors. In the F430 review, someone obviously translated it to NZ figures and such, but the line about fuel economy was that it got 17 litres per kilometer, now THAT is some bad fuel economy. And then they mention a few numbers in NZ dollars and it mentions 'quid' in the next line! Sloppy!

I'd have to agree - been brought up on evo (and Performance Car before that) so I'm probably a little biased. It's just a far better take on what a car magazine for the genuine enthusiast is meant to be.

I read the first 2 UK editions when I was over there and will not be buying the NZ version again. Very disappointed....

Sounds like it's a unanimous "give it a miss then" eh?

Flicked through it in the supermarket and decided not to buy it.

I was reading a magazine called “Autocar” or something similar the other day and the editor had a great comments on road safety campaigners where he mentioned that the “Close up” program blaming modified cars for being “dangerous” and killing people was like blaming a gun for a shooting, It’s a good point that it takes two to tango.

Of course there is modified and then there is 'modified'.

A car that's had its springs chopped down in the driveway is like a homemade zip-gun. Chances are it will blow your hand off or blow up in your face.

Professional mods are another story.

You're a brave man. Most of the car magazines have covers like porno mags. I'm too embarrassed to stand next to them let alone flick through them.
