Pukekohe Trackday This Saturday (27th Aug)
Discussion
Just letting you know that there's a trackday this weekend. It's a private trackday and there are a couple of spots left.
It's expensive at $200 for the day, but the benefit of this is that there is a 16-car limit, so lots of track time if you want it. There's going to be a couple of RS6 Audis there, some Quick BMWs, a Ferrari 360 Challenge Stradale, a couple of Evos and 300ZXs and also a brand new Elise (not you is it Photochromatic?). The upshot of this is that it's looking like a good day where there'll be some good equipment there, without the usual dfirting yobs etc.
There are a couple of spots left and I'm considering taking one of them if I manage to shake this flu virus by the end of the week (and the weather's looking fine), just wondering if this appealed to anyone else in here?
It's standard trackday rules basically meaning passing only on the straights and a focus on some good tracktime to learn racecraft rather than racing eachother. Timing I think is up to you, and passengers are allowed on the signing of a disclaimer.
Given the nature of PHers, I imagine that if any of you are keen to come along then just pos in here and I can get you details..... NZTrev/Dean this might be up your alley.... any takers?

It's likely that I won't be entering this... I've got a flu at the moment and my head is full of cotton wool so it's not the best scenario for me to go hammering my pride and joy around Pukekohe... but I imght head out for a look and take come pics nonetheless If I feel better and the weather improves a lot I may be swayed though
Well it depends.... that is towards the more expensive end of the spectrum..... club trackdays I've been in typically cost about $80-$100 .... open days I think cost about $80 (Pukekohe open test days).
I know some bookings of the Taupo track get as low as $30 per person for larger groups which is ludicrously cheap..... but in my opinion.... $200 is pricey... but worth it if you get a lot of laps.

I don't think the cost of entry comes into it.
I have always looked a blowing a grand on wear and tear before any mishaps etc.
$200 is a bargain for a open track and 15 to 20 cars this Saturday(its full btw,just checked,bugger)
Normaly $90 and you will be lucky to get 20mins an hour, min.

Yeah it did seem okay for the amount of running, I only heard about it second hand so I wasn't completely up with the play.... but I may still be going along to have a look.... still haven't found out who the Elise owner is.
When you next on track Paul? Friday?
It's not me George. I was out there most of today though - just the usual controlled testing day.
It's gone up to $90, BTW. Not the greatest value today because there were lots of classes, and the drifters went out with the half-dozen or so road cars.
Got three 20-minute sessions in for my $90 though.
Castrol is still greasy, but otherwise the track is fine, for once. Lots of chips on the sills though
I reckon $200 is a bargain. It costs $2800 not including St. Johns to do a private hire, and you get all day.
I wish I had known earlier...

Good stuff.
Just out of interest, you had a chance to time the 111R around puke in comparison to the S2, be interesting to see the split... you'd imagine it'd be quite pronounced around a "power" track like pukekohe.... I've run a 1:15.4 in my S1 and I reckon bigger, brassier balls on the driver could shave a second off that and maybe some actual driving skill could lower that by maybe another second, but that's about as fast as she'll go around there.
It must be hard to get some good time out there with the drifters doing their thing.... especially with the mess they tend to make of the place.... it's probably the reason for half your stonechips.
I've got it sorted though, my front clam and sills are peppered with stonechips now so I don't notice any new ones.... and being New Aluminium, it's the best colour for disguising them
How did that paint protection stuff work out for you?

I haven't timed a lap yet. I make it a rule to learn a car before I get the timer out. Saves me getting overexcited! Red mist...
The 111R is noticably different to the standard S2 to drive on the track, and it took me all day to even begin to get it hooked up. The extra weight and the more supple suspension give an initial sensation of less cornering grip. In actual fact I suspect that there is a little more - especially over the bumpy bits. I had one wriggle going around the Jennings Sweeper and instead of skittering, it kind of jumped sideways a bit and then hunkered down and bit some more. There isn't as much direct feedback through the controls though - you have to take a little more on faith.
I am finding more understeer through Castrol though, probably due do the extra weight, but perhaps also to do with track condition. I'm exiting at best (i.e. rarely) at 100, when I expected 110-plus every time in the S2. The hairpin seems about the same.
The torque curve is fun - makes the whole thing more challenging, trying to stay inside a narrow band of revs which starts more or less where the limiter used to kick in! Finding it very difficult to stay on the cams in 3rd through Castrol, but 2nd means an upshift as I am straightening.

I guess I am a little disappointed in the speed differential so far, but it is early days. I am braking from 200-210 at 90m into the hairpin - I managed 180 (where it topped out) in the S2 (at 120m).
The brakes are sensational.
George - I have updated the NZPerformanceCar thread with some feedback on the paint treatment and film. In short, the film is great (shoulda done the sills...)
KiwiXTR2 - I asked Garry about this last time I was out there. They have floated the idea of having drift-only days and keeping the drifters out of the normal track days. Doesn't sound likely for a number of reasons, mainly money-related.
On the subject of trackdays, perhaps we should get a band together and do a private hire. As mentioned, Puke is $2800. AFAICR, Manfield is $1650. Dunno about Taupo. Hands-up who would be interested.

As for a PH trackday, it's a stunning idea.... if we can only get numbers.
I almost know dead cert the following would be interested:
Esprit
Kylie
NZTrev
KiwiLE
With Possibles being:
Kiwikid
Roger A
... I'm sure we could probably rope in some people from the Lotus club maybe... I know some of the TVR lads would be mad-keen as well to get out on track with the absence of drifters... I can think of at least a couple of Griff 500s that would love to join in the fun... hmm it's almost viable

Good day out yesterday, although it did start to get a bit lairy at times through Castrol (what with all that dirt on the track). Still half tempted to head down today for a perv, but I did promise my nephew I'd bring him to the classics auction at Turners so I may be duty bound.
@ Photochromatic - pleasure to meet you. Nice little machine you've got there... for a Lotus As you said it'll take a bit of getting used to. A few more laps under your belt and you'll have it licked (my Dad was seriously impressed with your pace in the third session).

I'll certainly be a starter, count me in.
