Well 3 weeks ago I sold the CRX. Needed something with abit more space and could tow my datsun with until its road legal.

Drove a couple of legacy wagons etc which would have been the practical choice but they wernt very inspiring to drive so Ive bought this instead

Its a Genuine 1986 M325i Motorsport, complete with 2.5 litre straight 6, 5 speed and LSD. Paintwork is abit stone chiped but otherwise its pretty tidy

The other cars all belong to my flatmates

Very, very nice. I have many fond memories of the one of those that my father owned when I was little- fond memories that tend to be followed by not so fond ones of extreme car sickness on the road to Whitianga! They're great cars, even for their age. I notice also that it has the larger wheel fitted, I believe they came with a smaller motorsport wheel as standard but it really obstructed view of the gauges. I hope you enjoy it.

That is the smaller Motorsport wheel. The lower spec ones had 4 spoke ones without the M colours on the bottom spoke.

Ive still got the 320mm Momo race I had on my previous car so Ive ordered a boss kit which should arrive tomorrow

Christ, looks like a truck wheel in that photo! I hope the Momo wheel works on it, far better sports look. How many km does it have on it?

Lookin' good paul.... just watch out for tired suspension as these things tend to get very sloppy/wallowy when old... apart from that it should serve you really well

Probably the wheel just looks so big cause the camera is about 6 inches away from it, its quite nice to use in real life, so much so if I didnt have the other wheel already I probably wouldnt bother.

Its got 238ks on it but the motor has been rebuilt and compressions are good so Im not worried about that side of things. Only place you can really tell is the paint is stone chipped and the driver seat is worn.

But i have another rear seat and getting it retrimmed in original material (unique to motorsport cars, still available but its $190 per metre) so that will be sorted soon

Nice car, and a good choice of model! I bet it goes like stink too. High mileage is not a problem if its got a full service history, least you can be a step ahead to replace things as you feel its necessary. A great hobby car indeed

Very nice, and a fine choice

I've always loved the look of those old 3 series, and it's on my list of cars to own before I die

Very nice, I have always liked the E30.

Just out of curiosity, why do so many clearly non //M BMWs (not yours obviously) in NZ have an //M badge stuck on them? I find it rather sad to see a 318 hatchback (or whatever its called) with a big //M badge, when its clearly not an //M

Actually to be honest I though that about this car, until you mentioned what it was and the fact that its pre M3.

I think the answer to that question is self evident...

IMHO a fake M badge is no different from a Bad Boy/Girl sticker, boom sounds, glowing neon lights, blow off valve set to low... etc etc...

I think this list is probably endless

Yep and it's just the same as those who stick PistonHeads stickers over their car an......... *whistles innocently and walks off*..

heheh but seriously, it's just another example of people trying to fool people into thinking they've got something better than they've got..... why do people build F355 replicas out of MR2s?.... the thing is it doesn't fool those who they'd most like to fool... the enthusiasts... the only people that don't really know the difference are the people who wouldn't give a toss in the first place

Don't get me started on what half the car makers of the world do... especially the yanks, and all their, 'Replica' this and that on their cars, which don't do anything but just give the appearance of doing something...

Go onto trademe and see how many different fake //M badges are on there. Its no different to all the Type R honda badges around.

Although saying that alot of the newer BMWs that have no performance parts (or very little) come factory with //M badges just cause they have a factory bodykit or whatever. BMW bastardise the //M badge as much as any other ricer. Just the same as Gti badges etc of old

So very true Paul... the BMW brand is a MASTER of marketing (why else would they be so popular? They're not ACTUALLY as good as everyone thinks) They manage to do just enough to get as much mileage as they can out of "M" without cheapening it too much.

In the late eighties/early nineties you could order 'M' accessories for your BMW be it 316i or 325i and once you had any 'M' bits installed you were entitled to the badge!

Incidentally, I don't think we ever had a 325i 'M' in the UK but we did have 325i Sports.

I'd really like an E30 Touring Sport with black leather Recaros and the full (factory) bodykit, complete with BBS cross-spokes. Yum.

Yeah I guess BMW owners are no better than boy racers. And here I thought BMW supposed to be a sign that you were more mature, ha!

Still makes me wonder who they are impressing besides themselves. Of course I say the same about boy racers, they only seem to appeal to other boys (and I suppose a handful of immature girls).

Boyracing is all about the hoes after all.... when I was in school I was one of maybe 3 or 4 guys keen on cars... as soon as you hit the late teens and guys realise that guys+cars=girls then every lad and his dog suddenly become "car guys".... it's just the way of the world.
