6 August Lotus Sprints anyone?
Discussion
I'm not booked in, arrived on the Lotus scene too late for this one.... will be very keen to come and watch though... anyone keen for a convoy down?
I'm booked in for the LBJ day on the 14th though... haven't received confirmation yet, but I got my form and fees in 3 days after they were released so I should be sweet

Any idea whether there are any places left available for this? I'd love to go out and have a blat but am assuming that it's WAAAAAY too late to throw my hat in the ring.... will be at the clubnight tonight so might ask around then.

I talked to Geoff and he said if Rhys cancels I'm definitely in, if not then he's doubtful... I needed to send him an application form but never got one so I sent him all my details by e-mail, I said I'd sign indemnity and pay cash on the day if needs be... so I'm ASSUMING he's got me as being first in line if anyone bails out... I guess I'll find out later on this week.
Dean when are you going down on Sunday, might convoy with you, get there early.. just in case I get a spot I'd like to be there early enough to get scrutineered with you... actually.. I might even tag along with you to that... means if Rhys doesn't turn up I can nab his spot.

Yep. I'll be there on Saturday. First time for me with the Lotus on the track, so Friday will be my preparation day, eg: fire extinguisher and video camera. I think I'll even treat the car to a wheel alignment and balance.
Aah you've got Dean's old SE eh? Wonderful car that from what I've seen... will look forward to having a perve again on Saturday..... hopefully there'll be a last minute spot to get my Elise on-track
Dang! Dont you just hate it when someone tells you you have 'so-in-sos' car!!!!!!!
Its better than ever now. I have found an extra 6 pounds boost. The engine temperature always ran cold, and I did think it strange that it does. And being an electronic injected unit, I know a wee bit about these things, and wondered why after reading the handbook I was 6 pounds down on boost. Anyway, to cut to the story, temperatures below 75 degrees and the engine runs in 'open loop' mode. This is a warmup mode where the car runs rich and boost is limited until it reached operating temperature. But alas, it never used to get over 70 degrees. Well, a change of thermostat fixed that, now runs in closed loop at about 85-90. I now get full boost (15 pounds) and the back wheels will break traction on their own through 2nd gear
There will be a few things I need to tweak on the car, otherwise it will be left as is - I cant fit anymore grin factor in

Hi there, with the boost - not trying to be an old school teacher but these cars arent designed to hold too much boost without something else going wrong. Max boost setting should be around 9.5psi. Anyway its your car now so enjoy. I will bring mine out to watch this time. See you out there

I said so-in-sos' OLD car .... don't worry... I'm still getting a little bit of that with mine... although it only lasts for a little while
I'll be there on sunday.. HOPEFULLY on-tack, but we'll see, that much isn't up to me

The standard engine management system allows maximum boost of 15 pounds (14.7 to be exact), to be held for a period of 30 seconds. This is where engine horsepower heads for 280 and similar for torque. If there is a wastegate operation failure, at a point where boost is greater than 15.5 pounds, the ECM shuts the engine down until boost levels restore below this level. It was this full electronic engine management that allowed this new generation of engine to be more powerful than predecessors. This is standard as the day it came from the factory. Im sure Lotus Engineers didnt design any self-destruct mode into the engine.
Damm knew you were going to come back with that I am only looking out for ya thats all we are close nit little group here. Been talking to quite a few people who have chipped their SE's sucessfully and increased the boost to 12 with no problems yet. Some guys on the other hand have not cared too much for the car and gone up to 20 which has highlighted some of weak points in the car. Of course that part boils down to the driver on how they indend to drive it too.
I too got my car through a club member and bumped into him almost every track day, luckily for me he is a real nice guy. My car was sold to me as a do-up as the previous owner had no time and didn't like keeping cars for too long anyway, but the reason I got this one was that the engine was still running strong, so was least of my worries. It came with stress cracks through the bumpers and parts of the rear trunk, lots of little parts missing and so on. So I had spent heaps of time and $$$ on it getting looking nice again. Two owners before me put a X180R kit on it, which I was going to take off as it was never going to be one. It only shares the same chassis thats it. So I decided everything was going to be stripped off and put back original. The original OZ wheels that came additional to the current Revolutions were sold so I found out and couldn't trace them. So everything came to a halt and I kinda got used to the add ons just repairing everything and leaving it at that. It look quite good and get heaps of positive comments about it.
If you did buy it from Dean Savage, I can honestly say you got a great example. He bawled his eyes out when you took it away. He used to get underneath with a toothbrush and refurbished almost every single part in that car. I said he was mad to sell it but he said he had it for a while and like most things, its time to move on. Hes been on my back now to join him in V8 ownership. A wedding to pay for this month and hopefully a V8 sometime after that.
