Heh... stuff like that is just cool Got a guy at my work building a rocket-powered car to challenge the NZ speed record.... he's a nutter but he just might do it!

For the NZ record you don't need Rocket-Power.

Just a long, straight, flat, EVEN surface that can be closed to general traffic.

Of course the engineer in me loves ROCKETS

I'll bring my 0.9kg fire extinguisher

HEhe I know... but he's a rocket freak... he's made rocket skates, rocket bikes, rocket skateboards before... it's his hobby, just so happens he wants to smash a few records with it too... a standard Mac F1 could do it in an afternoon at Ramarama if you closed one direction of the MWay... probably the best piece of road in NZ for doing it.

Is the record still the 370kph or so set by Owen Evans? was thinking a standard macca f1 would need a pretty long straight to have a chance at that. and maybe a tailwind.

Just another interesting thought:

I bet u could fit a bigger rocket in the back of my legacy than a wee mr2...heh heh heh.

might need to upgrade the shocks first tho. lol

I'd be more worried about the heat shielding than the shocks

Getting off the line without incinerating yourself would be the first challenge.

Brakes would be another issue. If you get to ~400 kph you'd probably need another 1,000m to stop assuming very good brakes.

nah, you just need reverse-thrust units like they have on the big jets. of course, that does bring into the question the whole heat-shielding thing again.....
