Importing car from the UK
Discussion
Easier than many think possible.
Select your car, do your maths carefully, Ensure you can register it here - this bit very important.
Ring Dealer, pay your cash, register to your name and UK address (use the dealers) ask him to deliver to your nominated shippers depot, complete deregistration/export document and job done.
IF a new vehicle - it can be done as a VAT qualifying vehicle and you save 20%. Second hand - no VAT - and add 15% on this end.
Sit back, wait 8-10 weeks, brace yourself for GST and shipping charges, get registered, job done.
I have imported 4 - 1 of which was private. Even have sent one back for a holiday.
I use a shipping agent ex Christchurch, he has a yard I deliver to in England - and I pick up at the yard here - both Auckland and Christchurch.

Have you tried this firm to see if they can get you a manual version?

Car arrived very successfully. Ended up using European Car Imports (https://www.europeancarimports.co.nz). They don't charge much relatively speaking and the whole affair was completely stress free, including inspection in the UK, shipping and insurance, and, once here, compliance, registration and warrant. Car was certainly cheaper than buying one here (if I had been able to find one in the spec I was after), especially if you can get one that is VAT qualifying (i.e. you save 20% on the UK list price). I calculated that, all up, it cost me $5-8K less than buying locally for a car with exactly what I wanted.
Seems they do quite a few, including some quite exotic stuff, and appear to have no issues with local compliance unless it is something very unusual.
