If a Formula Ford would do ~62 seconds and a TRS Toyota would do ~55 seconds, how quickly would a modern (2004/05) F1 car lap Pukekohe ?

(Assuming it wasn't thrown off the track by the bumps :hehe:)

I'd put my guess in at 34.5 seconds

Well think about it... they're not half fast....

I mean look at the top gear test track... some of the fastest road cars in the world (which would be faster than a TRS car) were doing it in 1:18 or some such... the F1 car did it in less than 55 seconds or so... now Puke (aside from the bumps is hardly a challenging circuit... a big straight, a hairpin, a chicane and a couple of high speed bends... you'd expect a F1 car to HOSE it in.... so yeah, I stand by my estimate

Pointless? No! THIS is pointless:
1) why doesn't it stop raining?
2) why do you guys just talk about cars all the time?
3) do you prefer plastic or metal wheelbarrows?
4) what goes on in SCW's mind?
5) what goes on in my mind?
6) what are your views on a)rawl-plugs?
b) Sir Keith Holyoake
c) Barry's Point Rd (especially the white bits)

Some things we're just not meant to know or understand.... even the man himself has no clue most of the time

Thinking about this a little more :

As I understand it Pukekohe is a 2800m track

A Formula Ford at 62 sec averages 162.58 kph
A TRS Toyota at 55 sec averages 183.27 kph

To achieve 34.5 sec the average speed would need to be 292.17 kph

The following is a list of the F1 Tracks - Length - Lap Record - Ave Speed - Rank

Albert Park - 5.303 km - 84.125 sec - 226.93 kph - 4
Kuala Lumpur - 5.543 km - 94.223 sec - 211.78 kph - 14
Bahrain - 5.417 km - 90.252 sec - 216.07 kph - 10
Imola - 4.933 km - 80.411 sec - 220.85 kph - 7
Catalunya - 4.627 km - 75.641 sec - 220.21 kph - 8
Monte Carlo - 3.340 km - 74.439 sec - 161.53 kph - 18
Nurburgring - 5.148 km - 89.468 sec - 207.14 kph - 16
Montreal - 4.361 km - 73.622 sec - 213.25 kph - 12
Indianapolis - 4.192 km - 70.399 sec - 214.37 kph - 11
Magny-Cours - 4.411 km - 75.377 sec - 210.67 kph - 15
Silverstone - 5.141 km - 78.739 sec - 235.05 kph - 3
Hockenheim - 4.574 km - 73.780 sec - 223.18 kph - 6
Budapest - 4.381 km - 79.071 sec - 199.46 kph - 17
Istanbul ???
Monza - 5.793 km - 71.046 sec - 257.32 kph - 1
Spa Francochamps - 6.976 km - 105.108 sec - 238.93 kph - 2
San Paulo - 4.309 km - 71.473 sec - 217.04 kph - 9
Suzuka - 5.807 km - 92.730 sec - 225.44 kph - 5
Shanghai - 5.451 km - 92.238 sec - 212.75 kph - 13

Monza is easily the fastest with an average speed of 257.32 kph

With this updated data my new bid for a F1 car around Pukekohe is :

40 sec flat at an average speed of 252 kph

XTR2..... well my guess wasn't TOO far out then.... Is that the average for a flying lap? or is that the race average (including stoppages and pitting?).... I'm guessing a flying-lap speed.... in which case, 40 sec sounds about right.

If I can cut 64 seconds round Pukekohe, I'd be pretty happy I'd think

A lunatic in an S1 can do it in 75 sec
A well sorted S1 111s speced up can do 72 sec
Anything under 80 sec in a std road car is good.

Going off previous Lotus sprint results at Puke, a standard S1 with std tires usually does 1:17's, not so experienced drivers more close to 1:20's round puke. The four pot Esprit comes in at 1:15's, VX220 and 111s round that mark too. Sport 160 under 1:12's.
Std V8 Esprit 1:08's - 1:10.

Dean what are you doing now in the Elise with new tires - 11's/12's?

To put things into perspective the much loved Holden V8 SS off the shelf does it in 1:20. So id aggree to say that anything under 80secs is quite respectable. I mean you can compare your car against highly tuned jappas and supercars all you like, but remember they have poured 10's of thousands, or a few hundy thou into it to be the fastest. Its good to have a car to drive to the track, drive like a bat out of hell all day then being able to drive home again and park up with bugger all issues

edited to add - a fellow club member whos a real Esprit nut and a great peddler puts his air con on while doing the sprints - that's class

Kylie... to be honest, I was hoping to get the Elise around in 1:15-1:16.... I reckon it's doable..... it's something to shoot for anyway.... Hopefully it's something I'll be able to work towards sometime in the future... both with an improving driver and(eventually) an improving car

Last time on the mighty FREE Champiro's tyres it was about 1:13 (very scary) and that was braking WAY early on the back straight so I didn't cook the MMC brake disc's.......back staright top speed just short of 240

I think with iron disc's, real tyres and a slight testicle enlargement, & someone who could drive well, the "Londa" could do a 1:06, with me at the wheel, maybe a 1:09 ?????

We will see soon.................

Heh.... clocked a best of 1:15.4 on my first time out so that's not too bad... I reckon I could JUST nudge it into the high 1:14s region before things started getting silly but I think that's about as fast as the car will go on street rubber and full trim with a mortal (like me) behind the wheel!

Still a ways off the pace of the F1 car though!

Good for you, thats such a good time for a S1, very surprised indeed. Mind you have carting experience which certainly helps eh. So that means since my sparing partner has moved on, and we are running similar times consider the gloves off George mmmmMM may have to get those carbies re tunedand turn the boost up..Lol
