Does anyone know anything about this town as a place to live. We trying to emigrate from the UK and wife has seen a job advertised here but we know nothing about the place. We like quiet rural places rather than busy towns/cities so on the face of it looks ok on that front. We like surfing and Raglan is obviously not too far away anyone got any ideas please?.
May I ask what sort of job she's looking at? Rural areas are desperate for certain skill sets (teachers, doctors, etc.), which can work in your favour if you're looking to settle here.
It's a small rural town in a prime farming area. It's not anything like a small english village!
Some nice roads in the area, though the standard of driving in the Waikato is pretty bad even by our low standards

As long as you move there with the right attitude, you should be fine. As mentioned, the smaller towns are desperate for medical professionals, teachers, etc. so you should be warmly welcomed.
Go with the view that NZ is a foreign country that just so happens to speak (a variant of !) English, and you'll be fine. Go expecting a version of England some time ago and you'll struggle.

As someone who lives in a similar sized rural town (albeit in the deep south of NZ not the central north), I'd say locals attitude to outsiders moving into the area often depends a lot on the attitude of said outsiders... Some people adapt to the differences, get to know locals with similar interests and become part of the community fairly quickly.
Others complain about everything, stay aloof and give the impression they don't respect the local values or even want to be there.
I'm sure you can guess which ones the locals are more welcoming to!
