TVR to purchase MG!!!!!
Discussion
Got my usual Autoexpress email today and the top story was how rumours are rife that TVR are buying MG and are going to move to Longbridge!
May we finally see an exciting MG? Will they produce a steel-bodied TVR? Will they crash-test and get past the moaning bum-heads that are the LTSA in NZ?
Who knows, but it's quite bizarre.

The LTSA haven’t exactly been reasonable so far, I have no reason to believe they will in the future.
I’m not convinced by TVR’s efforts under new management at all. They seem to have the same build quality worries as ever with an even bigger price tag than ever before. I know some people love them but I think they have started to slip in recent years.
Would certainly be interesting to see a TVR/MG amalgamation... but one tyhing's for sure... unless TVR were going to produce MGs as a low-brow TVR with TVR moving to the higher ground I don't really see eithe rcompany having the resources to keep both badges alive..... would be cool to see though... MG reverting back to being a boutique but common sports car and producing cars more like the original S1 Elise (cheap(ish)) and fun to drive if not blindingly quick allowing TVR to use the facilities to make ever-more exotic cars.... I'm with speedy though... I think TVR peaked in 2000 or so and it's not inspired me as much since. Hoping that'll change though I'd LOVE to see them go back to using some really grunty bent-eights to compliment the screaming-six too... but that's probably just a pipe-dream.
In an ideal world it would be nice to see the two companies together but I doubt itll happen or if it does wont be a success.
If they did theres not alot theyd be buying other than the name. None of the current models deserve to stay in production.
Im a huge MG fan, My parents have had 9 of them but their current offerings are pretty shocking, dads MGF has caused him no end of trouble.
MGs market was in low end sports cars, not usually particularly fast but always fun to drive, and theyve moved well away from that.
Unfortunaltey it just takes soo much money today to run a succesful car company at anything beyond kit car stage, I dont think TVR has the resources to pull it off, they should stick to their own product

True paul... but in that respect it IS possible that MG could become a mini-TVR and use a 4-cylinder version of the TVR engine... either that or they could just buy in a Toyota unit or something and compete against the MR2/MX5 etc..... leaving TVR to move upmarket and take on Ferrari... but who knows... it's all rumour and speculation... I fail to see a business case for it really, other than TVR taking over the facilities only (which would be WELL worth it) But I feel if TVR tries to move too far, too fast.. they'll lose some of their essence and alienate their fan-base and find themselves trying to sell a product that noone wants to buy.... while we all clamour over ourselves to trade in the old models
