Hey was just thinking.... there's a reasonable number of us now, especially up around the Auckland region and was thinking that if we banged our heads together we might be able to all actually go out for a run at some point? Given that it's winter and we all acknowledge that it's not much fun to go motoring when it's hammering down with rain, I was thinking some kind of informal sort of run, sort of less-formal/organised than a proper club-run. This way it can be confirmed once we know the forecast and have the possibility of reserve/postponment dates should the weather gods pack it in. I was thinking a sunday (because most of us tend to reserve a little time on a sunday for taking our P&J out for a weekly warm-up run).

Sort of thing I'm suggesting is a meet-up point and then maybe a ~45min-1hr run to somewhere for a casual lunch, whereafter people can make their own ways home or convoy back.

I was thinking the invitation could also be opened to any members of any clubs we're involved in / friends etc and might be a good way of raising the profile of this little PH community we've got going here.... we're a pretty friendly like-minded bunch in here and it'd be great if we could expand our population base etc. This would be ESPECIALLY good in light of the lack of good, local on-line messageboards/communities for us car-lovers (that aren't into Hondas, Rotaries, Skylines etc quite so much as our exotica).

Anyone think this might be viable? I mean there has to be ten or so of us up here that would be possibles and if we each extend an open invitation to others in our social circle we might be able to pull in a few more.... Not thinking about any snobbery etc on what type of car etc, I know one Evo owner of mine that'd be mighty keen (non-boyracer sort... he's a demon 'round Taupo), more just a chance to find some great roads and do precisely what this forum was set up for:.... to do some gassing! :)

Excellent!! If you decide on something, I can do my bit and take it to the committee meetings to send out a notice. As with any event like this people need a bit of notice, the venue to hold enough cars and of course something to do at the destination even if its just a nice cafe.

yeah will have a think.... probably be best to book it for a weekend and then maybe have either the next sunday or sunday after as a reserve/postponment day.

Guess we'll see how keen people on here are for starters then if we've enough interest to carry it on to a proper meet then we can start planning dates etc that don't interfere with anything too major.

Wasn't thinking of anything too big, but I suppose if word gets around, we could possibly get a reasonable turnout of cars.

That's the advantage of being forum-based, you can just put the word-out spontaneously and get feedback back pretty quickly... all very well and good when you've got a young (teens/twenties) member-base in a club and most of them visit internet forums regularly... that's the good thing about PH... doesn't need to be club-affiliated but just a good soap-box for things like this

Let's get our thinking caps on.

I'd need a chance to reconnoitre the ground clearance at the destination

Hehe fair call... avoid speedbumps :P ..... you're probably the only person in the country I have to look down on on the roads driving an Elise :P

Wedgepilot, hope you can participate some other time.... there might be a trackdy convoy heading to Taupo later in the year, might be able to meet up in the middle.

When are you thinking of? I am planning to come up to the North Island in a couple of weeks, and would love to come along to such a gathering, and take lots of photos for my magazine. June 26th would be best for me, but I am pretty flexible (June 19th is the Rally in Rotorua though). Keep us posted!

Already WAY ahead of ya Ted

Actually taking the Elise to Hawkes Bay this weekend and I've got a Muvva decal there... will stick it on if it doesn't obscure my vision too much :P Can always go for some more stickers though Will HAVE to order the "smiley and cross-pistons" one at some point too
But yeah... HOPEFULLY we can get maybe 10 or so cars together, maybe introduce a few more people to our little hallowed corner of the interweb.... the more the merrier

Hehe yup, although it annoys me, the one I've got on the front window is crooked (a little) so I want to replace it at some point.... and I like the newer style stickers better anyway... so will probably order some more at some point anyway... like I said, if I can fit the muvver decal on the back window without it becoming a pain in the arse for visibility I'll stick that on.... else it'll go quite well on the underside of the boot lid so that it'll be displayed whenever the engine cover is up

But yeah PH stickers are all good... I'm not into the whole stickers-on-cars thing... but where a community like PH is involved I'm happy to fly my colours for the world to see I'll bet Ted would be more than happy to get a few more of us advertising the site too to help get some more Australasian visitors along

Good idea, hard to coordinate, I'm a starter for a "brisk run" in the country and some friendly BS at the end, could possibly find another couple of starters as well.

I'll volunteer my services as ballast. I hear some of those little pocket rockets actually go better with an extra 75kg or so in the port position. I don't think my Silver Bullet Skyline is really the sort of thing to have following the British Brigade...

Alternatively, if the cars can make it but their regular pilots can't...
