.... a while back on the NZ forums, there was a NZ PHer who had a chim and had the "agents" from the LTSA come round and reposess his plates because the car was retrospectively found to be "illegal"... who was this again and has anyone heard anything more of his plight? I had a quick search but couldn't find the thread... it's probably getting late and I'm going blind :P
The last time I heard from Richard he was joining forces with another TVR owner in Wellington to fight the LTSA in court. The other chap in question was a wedge owner.
I think Richard was prepared for the worst and was looking to sell the car in Aussie.
I'll see if I can rattle his cage and see if he's had any progress on it.

I just notice that he says in his profile that he loves driving his chim and the attention it gets everywhere he goes.... mind you, that may have been written prior to the revocation of his plates.... I've not seen him online in a while so it very well may be.... here's hoping he's having some luck!
Hi guys, still here. Car still in the garage. Situation hasn't changed - my only option is to seek a exemption from the frontal impact standards from the LTSA. They will say no and I will have 28 days to lodge an appeal in court. They will have expensive lawyers, I will have...hmm...probably no-one!
I've been following the case of a guy down here who has an unregistered Wedge 390SE. He requested an exemption and they turned him down. He has the evidence of frontal impact testing from a 280 for the States which passes. LTSA claim that test is invalid as there was no second dummy in the passanger seat (as they had to put the recording kit in there). His appeal was turned down, but the judge indicated that if he could get some more evidence on the validity of the test and the steering wheel compliance, he might reconsider the case.
Interestingly he denied the LTSA claim that allowing the exemption would set a precident for a loophole to be abused so thats one small battle anyway.
The argument that the TVR is just as (and possibly more) safe than an LVV scratch built car was not accepted as the terms of the law are such that this is a mute point, although the point was well made by an LVV inspector and the judge did seem to sympathise (although it did not make a difference).
I guess my point is that if the LTSA are so bloody minded that they will throw more money at lawyers than I could ever afford. My car is in my garage and will remain there until I figure what to do - Aus is no better - all Aus TVRs came via Malaysia and the same problem exists proving a UK car passes the Aussie Design Rules. Had a mad idea about building an Almac Sabre with the Chim as the donor...maybe...
I'll let you know if the Wedge gets any further. Cheers.
