Importing motorbike
Discussion
Subject to getting a visa we will be moving to Auckland this year. I currently have a K1300S Motorsport. Base case is that I sell it in the UK and buy something when I get to NZ. However have been wondering how much of a pain it would be to import it with the rest of our belongings. Has anyone done it?
It arrived fine, passed IVS checks (believe carried out on behalf of MPI). It was however immediately wheeled into the garage and lost behind cardboard boxes before I got a photo. I'm now in the process of working out how to get the entry certification and will service and grease it all up. It'd seem a good idea to understand the process as the first place I called said I'd need a new VIN plate attached to it - researching it, it doesn't need it due to age and having a frame number and I'd rather not have extra holes drilled into the frame!
Next thing is that they want to measure the front disc - which is a bit of a job as its hidden away in the castings of the front wheel. I'd rather it not be dismantled unless necessary!

Its not a great picture (assuming my posting works - first attempt at an image). It didn't pass compliance because of a lack of indicators and a mirror. Stupidly, NZ requires an exemption form to be signed by the Vintage Car Club to exempt vehicles from having indicators - another $100 spent for nothing. A removable mirror is on its way from the UK so it can be clipped on for its six monthly wof!

I'll try and get the picture sorted. VTNZ made me drill holes to rivet the VIN plate on - they're on the battery tray though, so I could cover it with a battery (its got electronic ignition, so no battery at the moment). The indicator exemption was easy enough, just another $100. Its now on the road - I just need arrange insurance .
Of course I can't now ride it anywhere thanks to corona!
