well well rally of otago on this weekend, looks like being a lot of fun.

Pasi Hagstrom / Jimmy Mcrae / Neil Allport in BDA escorts and a bunch of other damn good drivers also contesting the classic class.

Not to mention the national series contenders will also be going hard, and the allcomers class for those who just wanna have fun!

I'll be out following the stages round all weekend, hopefully get some good photos to post up here and try and convert some of you to 'real driving'

I remember when i was a student in the early 80s hitching (stop laughing) around to watch the national rally. I fancied myself on loose metal at the time but then I saw Walter Rahll do stuff in a Lancia that seemed to be outside the laws of physics-and this was 2wd (i think) Would love to see him in action in one of these "retro" events...

I was going to go down with some of my mates, but thought I'd better stay at home and work on getting my own car back on the road!

Maybe next year.

Of course I meant Walter Rohrl-fastest man ever up Pikes Peak (still) and that was in the early 80s (correct me if I'm wrong)in an early Audi Quattro

forgot to mention Hagstrom and McRae both broke down after a ford (water not car) on SS3 on saturday, McRae lost 30s Hagstrom lost 3 min before getting going again.

puts into perspective how much better they were than anyone else in the class.

Kinda funny that a NZ board would be so uninformed!

Rod Millen is in fact (as best as I can tell) the record holder on Pikes Peak!
