$45k starting price... is this really what a '95 4.0l Chimaera is worth in NZ? Sheesh...

Depends when that's going to be! 45k is just the starting bid though and it hasn't reached reserve.

I'll be selling my Chimaera this year and I'd hope to get more than 45k for it. In fact if that's all it would fetch I'd be tempted to keep it.

There was a Griffith on there recently for around $50k as well. Rarity value makes them worth it, not to mention what great cars they are. Can't think of many other things that I'd prefer if I had the money.

Probably be 6months before we make it over, unless we change our minds but were fairly set (are we mad?!?).

Doubt I'd be buying anything flash for the forst 6-12months anyhow, gotta settle in. then its a V8 and a jetboat!

The last Griff' I saw on TradeMe (last week) had a bid of 63,000 on it.

It was a pearlescent white one belonging to a guy in Wellington. It's a nice car and a strong price especially for TradeMe.

Know both the pearl white Griff (LOVELY car... well was when I last saw it) and know the Chim on there at the moment.... and if it's the same one I'm thinking of (extremely likely) then it's a pretty tired old bird, been rebuilt from an acciden-t damaged one imported from Asia and repaired rather dodgily from what I can remember.

Is that an attempt to keep the bidding low

Hehe I ain't got no interest in a 4.0 Chim mate I DO like the look of the white Griff 500 on there though.... SORELY tempted to see the bank about that one.... SORELY tempted.... still a LITTLE rich for my tastes though.... shame because last time I saw this car in the flesh it literally took my breath away... it's gorgeous... whoever buys it is going to be VERY happy.

I'm going to just plod on with my TVR7 500 project... I'll get there eventually

George
Do you know the registration number of the accident damaged Chimaera, was it blue with the front grill missing?

Thanks
Dan

Dan M.. think it may have been (although there's more than one blue griff around and I can't remember details of a missing front grille or not).

Jim Gamsby (TVR club head) will know it inside out... he knows most TVRs around pretty well

If this is the one I think it might be - ex Christchurch, blue, HC 4.0 etc.
If so - and I don't know that it is - then do not touch it under any circumstances. It had been rebuilt (badly) from a bad crash. I was advised that it should have been written off and never rebuilt it is/was that bad

Yep - I looked at buying it myself, and got the full rundown from various people who knew all about it. I preferred the blue one instead of the one I got as it had the HC engine. But no way!

There are a few ones around if you know what to look for. Personally if I was in the market for a TVR, I'd still be on the lookout for that Pearlescent White Griff 500

Excellent, thanks for the feedback. The car is up for auction in Turner's classics this weekend, guide price 42-48k. I'll dust off the barge pole for this one.

My car's on TradeMe at the moment (silver one) and I've had people see both and remark favourably on mine. I've just spent another load of cash putting a new starter in it and a battery too. Goes better than all of the 4.0litre cars I've driven (HC or not) and has been looked after. I've been told by two people that I'm understating it on TradeMe by pointing out all the faults but I just want to be up front about it.

I'm always happy to take people for a spin and make it available for inspection.

Price is negotiable contrary to what people seem to think......
