Guess that South African lad from pukekohe didn't heed your warning... unfortunately now thanks to this little tt we've now got another 6 months of the cops moaning that their assault on speeding is justified.... why these little shits are allowed to drive cars that are way too fast for them, dangerously AND be caught for it and then unleashed back on our roads time and again until they kill themselves is beyond me..... now it gives weight to the Labour government's argument that ticketing us for doing 111km/h on the open road is justified for our safety and not at all revenue gathering

Well . . . you can also be done for being 5% UNDER the speed limit if that is considered to be unsafe for the conditions

Hopefully any reasonable would not ticket you for only 5% over

I had a conversation with the local plod on this one - specifically the 5% relates to Trailers - they raised the limit to 90 for cars towing trailers BUT their level of discretion is only 5kmh.

The open road speed limit for cars is 100kmh - however they still have discretion of 10% (10kmh) - that means 111kmh - they ticket - they cannot think for themselves (if my employer takes the right to think away from me I would say b**ger him) - you can get a ticket for 101kmh - however at their discretion (say conditions are crap)

if they did ticket you for 101 kph you could take it to court and the charge would get laughed at and thrown out. the main reason for the 10% threshold is that they can't guarantee the accuracy of their equipment or the average cars speedo to any better than that.

edited to say:
If they were to ticket you doing 101 kph in bad conditions they could still get you on a careless use or dangerous driving charge at the officer's discretion, if they could produce a decent argument that it was dangerous in that situation (e.g a 4-wheel drift round a corner at 100 kph may not be speeding but would still be 'frowned upon' a tad).
