Hi all Kiwis. We're visiting W'ton again and I've been noticing these plants in people's gardens that could look really good back home in the UK, if they're hardy. No photo, I'm afraid, but they look like straggly stemmed bushes/shrubs with few 'normal' leaves but loads of what look like half ope globe artichoke flowers. They seem to come in green and purple varieties. I've been searching online for over an hour, with no luck. Can anyone help, please?

Could be a protea of some sort, they're South African (I think) but common all over NZ ...

Thanks, Mat, but the coloured petals are thicker, with no sign of a flower inside. I'll try to get a decent picture tomorrow.

I finally managed to get a good photo of some of these plants, Here's hoping someone can positively identify them for me IMG_20170106_185803 by Robert Ford, on Flickr

That looks like some kind of echeveria. It's a succulent, not actually a flower as such. Grow like weeds here, but originally from South America.

Find them here ... http://www.simplysucculents.co.nz/our-best-sellers...

Thanks, Mat. That looks a good match.
