98 Octane petrol - is it available on the Murchison (SH1 detour) route?

So in Welly this morning, heading to ferry, and looks like they are bypassing Hamner going straight to Tekapo?

I'm guessing that these cars will require 98 petrol, so Nelson, then Greymouth BP - they'll have to fill up there. Not sure if there is 98 available in Wanaka or Queenstown - Cromwell is the only place I know of that has it.

Does Cromwell have 98 again now? They used to when I lived there (about 6 years ago), but have only had 95 the last few years IIRC.

Can't get 98 anywhere south of Dunedin that I know of either.

I certainly hope that Cromwell has 98 - the BP NZ fuel finder says that it does. I'm going to need to fill up there when NSX S makes it over to Central.....

... and as it is more than 500km from Greymouth to Cromwell, I think the McLaren convoy is going to need it!

Been looking for the fuel requirements for the McLarens - can't find anything definite. Would 95 bugger them up?

Watched that last night and was shouting at the TV about the reporting & comments from the host - so many factual errors!
Cars looked great, even though the director was cutting the shot every second, and had no idea about getting good angles to show these cars off to their best...
but what do you expect from a human-interest story TV show.

Yeah, Cromwell has 98. It's around 20c more than 95 but I think it's worth it. The only problem is I use it inconstantly as I'm not often through in Cromwell. Given the number of higher end cars in Otago there should really be more petrol stations that supply 98.

Not sure how easy it would be to add 98 to the 95 only stations. Assume they might have to put a new tank and reticulation in which is probably cost prohibitive.

I understand that 'Drive' are following/ driving with the group so there might be something up on their YouTube channel in the following weeks. Better than the tosh that the presenters were spewing last night on Seven Sharp. An F1 is not a P1!!!! Aaaarrrgghhh!!!!
