all stocked up except for belts
I see many Fraser pilots use Sabelt belts but Kendall Racing suggests I use lever- and -latch belts as they are less prone to jamming in an open topped car -trouble is they are heavy, unwieldy and look cheap and crappy. What thoughts, oh wise ones?
I had to throw away a set of FIA rated Willans Pro 4x4x3 harness and replace them with some 2-inch Sabelt's.
I think there are 4 issues here :
1) What is better in the event of an accident? I would choose the Willans over the Sabelt (and the FIA ratings back this up)
2) Do you want it road-legal? The Willans aren't so they had to be replaced in my case
3) Which looks better? The Willans look a bit industrial but I personally prefer that look to the "Baby Factory" car-seat look of the Sabelts
4) Which are easier for passengers to cope with? No question here, the Sabelts are easy. The Willans are not too bad but they do tend to freak-out passengers who are not familiar with harnesses
Your choice ? ¿ ?
Rationale ! ? ! ? !
I think you're seriously misunderstanding what is happening here
The particular Willans Pro 4x4x3 that I had was simply not on the list used by the LTSA . . . therefore it was not legal.
It did not matter that it had all the FIA ratings . . . Not on the list . . . Therefore illegal
The main thing is that at least I'm not bitter about the experience
Try to get written approval for your new belts before you hand over the cash

Hmmmmm I think that the LTSA need a jolly good shafting... I'm sending out bad bad mental vibes to them right now :P
Fortunately there's nothing they can do to stop me slapping TVR badges on my TR7 though.... or dropping in a TVR engine
Can always slot the Willans harnesses back in between WOFs though.... cops'll never know the difference if you get pulled over.... hassle but it's an option.
