Cheapest place to buy cameras?
Discussion
I'm looking at getting a new DSLR that has HD video but I'm sure theres better prices the HN and NL out there, the trouble is a lot of the NZ websites look like dodgy Chinese scam sites.
Does anyone know of any legit sites that offer good priced cameras?
Or is it just Trademe?
Thanks

I got a good deal from Expert Infotech a couple of years ago when I bought my partner a new Canon EOS60D (http://www.trademe.co.nz/stores/expert-infotech). Prompt free deliver and best price I could find at the time, although it was on special. Bought myself an EOS 7 D in February of this year from Photo warehouse (http://www.photowarehouse.co.nz/) - once again best price I could find anywhere, but once again, on special. Basically, keep your eye out for special deals, unless you know someone heading for Hong Kong, the US or Singapore......
Went through this just before Christmas, and very nearly brought from a parallel import place via pricespy, but in the end the feedback regarding warranty claims put me off. In the end got a good deal/package from French Photography in NP, was less than $200 difference to an reliable online store but I was happy to pay the extra for the local deal and customer support. Canon NZ give 2yr warranties compared to 1 yr for parallel imports too.
Have used aucklandcamera.co.nz in the past without issue.

HN and NL do have good deals at times if you know what you're looking for, just don't depend on getting useful information from their sales staff!
Obviously too late now but for future reference, small local camera shops will often give sharp deals on older stock towards the end of financial year too, just to get rid of it before new models arrive. I quite like supporting the small local businesses too.
Pricespy etc are legit enough - they just summarise results from a number of retailers. Some of those retailers are good, some are parallel importers who can be less reliable when it comes to warranty support etc. Same deal with a lot of the importers selling new stuff via trademe.
