Hi All,

I am moving back to NZ for a few months next year and am planning on bringing a couple of 911’s back with me (996 for me and a 997 to sell). How important is it to change the speedos over to KPH (from MPH) or wont people really care about that?

Many thanks
BJ

There are plenty of British imports here with speedos in MPH. Didn't bother me when I bought mine. Don't think it is a huge issue if it is the right car.

Yes it is ok - From NZTA's WoF manual:
"Speedometer means an instrument in a motor vehicle that continuously indicates to the driver the forward speed of the vehicle in either kilometres per hour (km/h) or miles per hour (mph)."

No requirement to change at all.

I think I said this before, there is a quick shortcut for conversions in your head whilst driving....

Starting with MPH, add half of the speed, and then a tenth of the speed to get KPH estimate.

ie.

30mph gives 30+15+3 = 48kph
50mph gives 50+25+5 = 80kph
60mph gives 60+30+6 = 96kph

Not perfectly accurate, but it's near enough to save speeding tickets !!

No need to remember how to convert - only 4 speeds to remember to avoid tickets...they are all close enough

I am suitably impressed by a government that operates a common sense policy on vehicle imports.

My brother in law emigrated to NZ last year.

My elise speedo has both but the kmh is so small you can't practically read it. All I remember is 30 and 60 mph. Beyond that a guess is close enough
