Anything motoring related, fellow ph'ers invited, ideas welcomed, anything considered.

What say you?

The idea sounds like fun, but we're all fairly spread out which would make it a bit trickier.

Spread out too far? Take a look at the intercity overnighter thread - you can get anywhere by daybreak if youre willing to drive through the night....

I will be down in the South Island around January and will definitely be looking for some motoring related adventures. First time down that way so I may need a guide.

With a bit of convoy driving from where ever you're coming from? Taking in some interesting roads. There are plenty of them down south too.

I like both ideas - not in the same car though tongue out

Highlands (incredible track!) is 500km from me but if we get a few from here to join in then then I would get a car for it and have a few drivers from here that would come along.

Who knows anything about Highlands Trackdays?

Or entire circuit hire???

Hmmm, seems you need to be a member, and it's not cheap. Check out here:

Me and wifey were planning on going to the Highlands 101, until we saw the prices. Still want to go but money is quite tight for the rest of the year. frown

How about booking something cheaper like Ruapuna? Or even just an autocross type venue (large expanse of tarmac like an airfield)

A full day of exclusive use at Ruapuna is around $1500 + necessary miscellaneous overhead like St John, marshalls etc - say $2k max all up.

I've rented it many times and it's fun but....

Let's forget that and do a good a good road run - Chch/South Island to......... somewhere a long way away.

And maybe arrange something with Highlands as an add on?

Ideas?

Exact route and distance depending on time available we could work out a pretty interesting lap of the South Island, Arthurs - West Coast - Central etc taking in some of the great driving roads. Or maybe a northern SI loop if that was more viable for North Island PHers to join.

Yep, I like all of that.

NZ Ph'ers who would like to do this, your thoughts?

Highlands:

As mentioned - taking a close look it appears off limits to anyone other than members at a cost of $4,000 to $10,000 per annum - but no harm in asking, so I will.

Alternatively:

Cheap full day Motosoc trackday @ Ruapuna, I've been on these before, quite casual, not a high end thing, well run by University of Caterbury motoring division - details here:

I'd be up for a day at Ruapuna if available.

There are plenty of organised track days that people can do already so an event on this scale given the small number of NZers on this forum most of who have never met each other I'm not sure its the best of ideas.

I'd be happy to do a meet up somewhere for some interesting driving roads though which could be done on a much smaller budget especially if it was a long distance from home which is less likely to cause issues than a long distance from home could on a track day.
