Hello can any of you guys recommend a good carb tuner around auckland, I know there are a few on the shore but I would fancy someone this side of the bridge. Out west or central is better than out east for me.

Lotus people tend to take their cars to one person but sometimes its good to check out other places and service options. Failing that I have a few contacts I could track down within the club who race their 7's and cortinas.

You could maybe give Turbo Vehiclees in Penrose a ring, they tune heaps of those dirty turbo imports but have a rolling road and may have grandpa out the back who knows how to tune carbs (/ducks and hides). Other than that about the only people I could think of would be the rotary crowd and I don't think you'd want to let a Lotus near them.... they'd look for the engine in the wrong place for a start I bet!!

I didn't realise your car was a carby turbo...? Or am I missing something. its an odd setup, especially as a factory one at any rate if it is.

Yip its a Carbed turbo. They made 103 of them. I wanted it because the sound of a carbed engine with the flutter of the turbo vs the fuel injected ones are in a league of their own IMO of course . Engine management is the way to go, but its like driving a Toyota Corolla sound wise and just dosent cut the mustard for me. If I were to step into a newer model, it would be a late model V8 for sure. But I am not going to pay 150K for a newiah one, I will wait till a well sorted used one comes up, like a sport 350 is my aim for later.

I believe the MG Metro Turbo used some of the same components (i.e. the turbo?) in their installation as the Esprit - hence the hideous lag etc (being a smaller engine, not a reflection on the Lotus!).

Otahuhu Tuning Centre can tune and jet Weber, Dellorto and Holley carbs. I'm pretty sure Mike at Airport Service Garage has used them in the past.
