Hi
I’m new to NZ having arrived from the south coast of the UK and missing the regular Goodwood Breakfast clubs and FoS and Revivial. Can anyone tell me of any good car/classic car and air events within the Wellington area please? And any classic events further a field which I can put in the calendar?

Thanks
Mark

As far as regular and/or classic centered events Wellington is pretty lacking. Theres a bit of American centred hot rod stuff but not much for other cars, all Ive found is the British Car day and the Southwards Open Day which are both in about February.

We could probably try organising a Wellington PH meet once the weather improves. The closest we've ever got is one that was cancelled on the day due to bad weather about 2 years ago.

Thanks very much for all the information. I was aware of the MG owners club, but not the others, so I feel more informed, and can now look out for them too. I plan to visit the various Museums too to get my 'fix', but I'm surprised Wellington is lacking in any events, as sometimes I see a few classic-ish cars around. I'm not sure how we could go about setting up a Wellington PH meet up, but I would be keen to be involved in anyway I can! Cheers!!

There’s a classic car museum somewhere near paraparaumu which is supposed to be good. If you’re ever in Nelson, the WoW museum also has classic cars & bikes.

Having lived in Welly for 3 years, I never made it. I’m moving back there at the end of the year so there’s still hope!

Try getting along to something like the Petrolhead Magazine Breakfast. Although they are very hot rod/americana dominated there are the odd classics and sports cars that turn up at the Auckland event. I'd hope Wellington's one is not too different.

This is your local event...
NZ Petrolhead breakfast - Mana, Wellington
The new NZ Petrolhead in Mana, Wellington, is hosted by Gear Jammers at the Sandbar Restaurant and Bar, 103 Mana Esplanade. The event runs from 8.00am to 10.00am on the first Sunday of the month, there’s a $10 breakfast special, and tea and coffee will also be available. Win a free brekkie courtesy of the Sandman and a NZ Petrolhead subscription up for grabs each month. For more info call Mark McGlue, (0274)255 639.

Most car people at these events are approachable and will be able to tell you what other local stuff is on.

Hi
I am in Wellington and there are a few other PH types here too. The Wellington Lotus owners group (WELLOC) have a few social meetings - just a beer or a blat & breakfast type thing.
I am a member of Harbor Capital car club - very grass roots motorsport oriented, with a monthly social.
There is also the Constructors Car Club, who can be a bit "beardy", but organise some good events, including a car show later this year.
PM me if you would like an into to any of the groups, or care to come along to some motorsport events.

That's Southward's. The collection is actually incredible, but the way it's displayed doesn't really do it justice. Still a must see though.

Received an email about that. The club’s 25th anniversary year, with the show held over the weekend of 12-13 October 2013 at the NZ Kennel Club venue in Porirua, Wellington.

If anyone is coming to the Constructors Car Club show in Oct, look out for me and the Green & Yellow Caterham - it is part of the exhibition.
Be good to see a few PHers if you are around....

Didn't know anything about it till this thread but should be worth a visit. [edit: the constructors car club event, I'm well aware of Southwards]

Hi, New Zealand Classic Car mag & or Classic Driver have the up coming events around the country,
unfortunately we don't have as many events as you are used to in the UK.
On Feb 01-02 2014 at the Skope Classic Powerbuilt Tools Raceway @ Ruapuna Park near Christchurch is a 2 day event worth going to, also in the Nth Island Manfield (near Palmerston North) on Nov 8-10 2013 have the MG Classic, enjoy!

Agreed. Just moved to Wellington in July (grew up in Christchurch) and Southward's was right at the top of my must-do list. Unfortunately the 300SL wasn't there - being restored apparently - but the rest of the collection is amazing.

Reminder - the Constructor's Car Club show is on next weekend. There's a large indoor arena that will be full of kit cars of many types.

Here's the link:
