Just reminded myself to ask. I seen a lovely blue TR7 with aftermarket shiny rims cruising out around Blockhouse Bay in Auckland. I felt like I wanted to wave at them....silly ay I guess I would have if I were in the Lotus but waving from the Subaru they would have thought I was a nutter. I say find the owner and get him on here

Sounds like a job for me ..... what sorta wheels was it on.... like Minilites? Because I know there's a '7V8 with them on out that ay somewhere, I think there was even an article on hic car in TARMAC magazine at one point (early one).... it's on the original plates (silver on black, not black on white) if I remember correctly.

Could have been, a little hard to tell as they were moving so all I could tell was the outer rim was super shiny. Unless they have two sets of rims for it. Can be common for owners who want to do track/hoon events.

Yupyup..... sounds like the same car to me.... minilites with polished alloy rims.

Does THIS look familiar? (Snapped earlier in the year at the Auckland Concours show at Ellerslie....

This was the car in Issue 2 (I think) of Tarmac. Was an original FHC TR7 (4-speed, Speke-built car..... i.e. the crappiest of TR7s) was a NZ new one, one of the orginal ones in the country.... caught fire and kinda basically spectacularly expired in the late '80s.... was then rebuilt and is believed to have been the first TR7V8 in the country...... now is actually rather rapid with a tickled 3.5L (I'd esitmate 220bhp and a whole lot of suspension tweaks.... races it a bit at track days etc if I'm not mistaken.... will have a look over the car article in TARMAC in the next day or so to refresh my memory.

Agreed, it IS a nice car, it's been steadily improved over the years and is now a reasonably formidable machine..... not as formidable as mine is going to be, but mine's a LOOONG way off being built.... I'm still in the saving phase, a place where I'm going to be for a looooong time..... even with no student loan, TR7s can be expensive things to modify... jamie will back me up that the RV8 is an expensive lump to get horsepower out of, but it's doable and the rewards when finished are so great

Ermmm.... not really.... igven that there's probably only 10 or 12 Griffs in NZ in total, and all of the ones I've seen have been 500s I very much doubt it Although there may be one or two hidden somewhere. Good thing about NZ is, any Griff can be a pre-cat... they ain't compulsary

I assume there must be more but I've never seen a pre-cat 4.0/4.3litre car on the road in NZ. There is a 4.3 that can't be registered and of course there is the ex-Whittaker 5.0litre car which pre-dates the Griffith 500 and has pre-cat features.
