good luck

The only ones I have experience with are the

MG Car club who are a really good bunch of people but not too relevant for you. Only a couple of really dedicated people who carry the club though.

I have done a couple of events with the Otago Sports car club and if you want to get into competitive events theyre probably the main one. Mainly people with hotted up 1980s toyotas though.

Otago Mini owners club I was in for a year or two but I think alot has changed and most of the original founders (myself included) have left

Jaguar Drivers club. Probably one of the most motorsport orientated one marque clubs, have done a standing 1/4 with them before and they used VW club gear so maybe theyre involved too.

Umm thats about all I know about. The two main driving forces behind the classic sporting side are Dave Mehrtens at Mehrtens tyres on the corner of Bond and Jervois street. He organised a couple of classic tours and has alot to do with Triumphs

And Classic Automotive and tune up centre on bond st (where I get all my servicing done). Has alot to do with Jaguars and classic racing cars. So possibly those would be people to talk to

Theres not alot based in Dunedin, the car scene is pretty small

That any help? Anything else I can help with just ask. Keen to meet up at some stage too

Theres also a couple of hot rod clubs around that maybe would be more relevant for a viper. Dont know anything about them though.

Here you go, I never thought about hotrod clubs and drags etc. These clubs are excellent for seeing late model American muscle cars and pre-49 stuff. My dad's on the committee for the Timaru Club called Tornado Rod & Custom. Hes got a mint 73 Dodge Challenger and a 34 Ford Coupe hotrod. They are all great people. You might want to email these sights and see if its your scene or not. Search google, theres also a southern GT40 club and a Lotus club down there too.

Cheers

Lotus club youd probably know more than me kylie but AFAIK is only in christchurch.

Theres only about 3 loti down here I know of, a couple of elans and apparently an elise (though Ive never seen it) so theres not alot of scope for a local club.

Probably talking to christchurch clubs would be a good idea as its only a couple of hours away and the scene is alot bigger

Heres the southern club contact. The pic in the website on the front page shows two cars I know of from Auckland. Roger in the green elise before he wrote it off in the targa and a Black V8 Esprit with silver pin strips across it.

But this does not solve the problem of ultimately hooking up with other vipers. You will just have to network with as many people possible.

The other one to try is the Christchurch Crysler/GM dealership. Garden City Prestige.
They've had Vipers for sale in the past year, and might be able to put you onto some owners or a club?

There was a yellow one with the numberplate HOTEL that is now based in wellington

Ive seen a blue one recently parked in a hotel carpark so most likely a visitor

The resident dunedin one is different from either of these

I'm still a member of Conrodders and I'm sure they would love to see and hear a Viper.

You could always pop up to their clubrooms one friday night(just up from Speights brewery) to say hello, or make contact through the postal address etc

There is 3 Hotrod clubs in Dunedin and lots of American car events so you will very quickly start talking to the right people...

cheers

Hi,

I live in London but have been an associate member of Conrodders since coming over here to London for the last 9 years, which has helped me to get cheaper insurance while my twinspinner is in storage! It's probably best to contact them through the address below, or the websites as I cannot remember the street names to give you more accurate directions!

I will drop my cousin an email as he is an active member and may be able to help.

cheers
Whitey

PS. Just saw this contact name on the NZHRA site below, "Central Otago Brian Ward 027 404 7393". He will be able to point you towards the Conrodders clubrooms if you ring him and also advise re other event for you and your Viper!!
