Does anyone have recommendations or advice of student accommoation for Victoria University, Kelburn campus.
My step-daughter starts there in 3 weeks and halls of residence are in short supply (and apparently not nice) so looking at somewhere else like the Soho Apartments on Taranaki St.
Apart from the usual Google info, is there any real world knowledge of suitabilty or alternatives?

South end has a few houses, north or harbour end is right in the middle of the bars and clubs.
I'd aviod the harbour end as it will be full of inehbriated people socailisingsmile
Anything past that , my experiance of wellington is 20 years ago, so a bit out of date...... bars an drunks never go out of "style"

The Soho apartments are close to Courtney Place etc, so there will be no shortage of drunk people late at night, but it is also close to quite a few other apartments in the Tory St area. A lot of people live around there now and new apartment buildings seem to be popping up all the time, so I would imagine it would be pretty safe (would have been a different story 20 years ago though). It's also handy to lots of good cafes, and just around the corner from Moore Wilsons, which is where most of Wellington goes to buy fresh fruit/veges/meat.

Overall, very "Central City" rather than "City Fringe," so don't expect a quiet, peaceful lifestyle.

I would avoid the places up near the top of Willis St, and The Terrace isn't the best place to live.

Other options would be a share flat in Kelburn, or even Karori (good bus service from there to Uni, but crap weather). There's also Northland, which is also has a bus route that passes through the University.
