Our son (& his family) live & work in Wellington. He exhibits most of his Art in Auckland but reckons he wouldn't want to move there.
Any thoughts?

"Nice areas to live affordably in Auckland?" ..... AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHHAHAHHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA *breathes* AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHA.

But seriously, if you can avoid it, don't move to Auckland, don't get sucked in by it. The expenses to live here in rent and property prices just aren't wroth it. I'm busy trying to get out! smile

Move just out of Auckland.

Old Rodney area (Warkworth, Snells) is nice without necessarily having to buy a million dollar lifestyle property. Plus the new toll road makes it a 15 minute trip down to Albany.

Or go south and be close to Hampton Downs. 40 minutes from Te Kauwhata to East Tamaki.

Kawakawa Bay area is another option, especially if you like good driving roads.

Depends what the budget allows for, as always. It's amazing what you find on www.realestate.co.nz

From my relatively brief visits to both cities I'd have to agree with my son that Wellington is a nicer place to live - apart from the weather.

Strange stuff.
This https://www.facebook.com/events/227442867387299/ opens next Wed. He's curating and exhibiting.
The Getty & Wallace foundations have bought his stuff but that doesn't make it any more understandable to his parents.
Our house is full of unsold art.

I guess that's what might be call 'mixed media'. Especially the series titled Regurgitations. smile

Wellington probably is a good choice to live for the art culture, unless he'd like to move to Waiheke.

There is some interesting art out there. One place I find fascinating is the Gibbs Farm. What you can see from the road that is.
