Bringing my Renault Avantime back to NZ
Discussion
Hey folks,
I am a kiwi living in London, i have a 2002 Renault Avantime that i have owned for three years, but have now replaced with much more sensible M5.
I know its a lover it or hate it car, but i love it and am struggling to part with it.
Its the same as this one pictured:
I am thinking of shipping it back to Nelson and leaving it there for my Christmas holidays drive.
Can anyone tell me the average cost of shipping a car back to NZ and getting it compliant?
Also, has anyone seen another Avantime in NZ?
Cheers
Greg

Allow up to GBP2000 for single container shipping and insurance.....about $1000 NZ customs,MAF and clearance.....+ GST on the car value + shipping costs, unless you bring it back as a returning resident and don't sell it for 1 year then its GST free.
I have only complied TVR's....so someone else can say how much this would be for your car.
Good luck.

There may be an issue with emissions if the Avantime is Euro 3 - needs to be Euro 4 to get it here. SIV may an option provided it meets 3 of the following criteria: production under 20000/year; identified as collectable in a commercially published magazine; convertible or coupe body style (might be pushing it a bit); and it's a "high performance vehicle." The bar for the last one was set quite low by a 2.5 diesel automatic Audi Allroad a few years ago, so that's not as unrealistic as it sounds.
ETA - If you've been away long enough, you may be able to get through via the Immigrant's Vehicle provisions as well

Hi there,
I'm a love it on the Avantime....and live in Nelson, NZ too! I guess you never did bring it over as I'm sure I would have spotted a stand out car like that by now - let me know as I'd be interested in seeing it and I actually rent classics out at rentaclassic here. There's definitely places here that would service it fine and it would be a much more interesting addition to the normal far east bland mobiles....
