This is a positive move in my opinion. If the aim of speed cameras/radar etc. is to get people to slow down they should be as visible as possible. I've always thought that getting a notice in the mail a week after the event is ineffective. Any other opinions?

I can still rememer getting a bking from a traffic officer when I was 16. Has had much more effect on me than all the mail tickets I have ever recieved since (many years have since passed).

Yeah. although what's the point in marking them up if they are hidden behind bushes so you can't see them until you're on top of them like they are on SH1 heading out of Wellington.

The vans that are in plain view are easy to spot anyway, there's a white, red and green one in the Wellington force, all with blacked out windows, aerial on the back and normally a strobe light hanging off the back.

If you see a small van on the side of the road half a kms up the road, odds on its a camera.

I'm sure I saw one once in a VW Kombi complete with hippie paintjob - pretty sneaky! There is a green Mitsi van they like to hide in gorse bushes in the McKenzie country too.

Some people in Manukau, Auckland obviously got pust off with people belting past their house on Ormiston Rd, so parked an L300 van outside. Fooled me the first couple of times...
