Which UK Shipping Company Have People Used?
Discussion
I'm thinking of bringing a kit car in from the UK. I'm wondering which shipping companies people have used to ship cars to NZ that are UK based. I want to try all available companies to see who can give me the best deal, as it's actually just going to be a big car sized wooden box, so probably isn't going to be too easy to move about.
Any info and advice would be greatly appreciated aswell as approximate cost of your exercise if it's not asking too much too please.
I'm making sure I get a bit of research done first so hopefully won't have any nasty surprises.

I had to return to the UK unexpectedly last month which gave me the opportunity to shift the stuff I had kept in storage (mate's attic).
I used http://www.sevenseasworldwide.com because they could do any size load, had a man with a van that delivered the packing stuff, then returned to collect all my boxes. They were able to schedule a house visit to an hours time slot.
It was good service that end, however my boxes are still in transit so I won't know how good they are until next month, when it then depends on the NZ agencies. I got 12 standard size 40kg boxes for about £240.
They have an online instant quote widget and have a MoveCube which might be good for your purposes. http://www.sevenseasworldwide.com/shipping/movecub...

Nice thanks, I like the look of the movecube, the large size is about right for the body and chassis. I'll have to check the dimensions I was given by the manufacturer, But they only do AKL and WLG, I'm in CHC. Shouldn't be too hard to get down here though.
They quoted me to the door, I'll let you know mid July!!I have used and continue to use Karman Shipping. They specialise in car shipping & Richard Korge is great to deal with and very experienced. They do UK nationwide car pick up in a secured covered trailer and then sole container transit to NZ. Current container only cost is £1690 + insurance. May not suit a kit car in pieces....but without a doubt the best service for bringing back a new toy on wheels.
Cool, that's all good info, I'll be emailing them all after work tonight to look for quotes. It's just going to be a big wooden box full of bits loosely resembling the car to start with. There's still tax on the lot to allow for too.
I'm looking at a Lister Bell Lancia Stratos replica, with any luck it won't be too far off, but worst case a bit of overtime and a few more months I should have enough to go ahead with it. The beauty is that you can order as much or as little as you like, so I thought I'd get the big bits that would be expensive to send all in the main shipment, and anything smaller can come at a later date as funds allow.

I did a ring around recently in the UK to sort my shipping. The guys at karman shipping struck me as very knowledgeable and genuine. I didn't use them, as I had to sort household goods also, but if it was just the car, I probably would have. The price I had from them was on par with most others - circa £1600 (plus insurance and nz landing costs) for a 20 foot container. I went with excess-international, as they best suited my needs for the household goods. They seem pretty happy to have goods delivered to their Wembley yard that they then containerise and ship. All very easy if you are not over there, although I've ended up with a few scratches that I'm optimistic will polish out. I used Ian Harrison at Letton Percival & Co Ltd (0151 236 4568) for insurance (1.25% for car). He sorted insurance for each of my containers near on the day of departure and sounded like a decent bloke. His name comes up frequently on the expat forums as being the man to go to for insurance. The export string on here has a few people suggesting that you don't need to get insurance, so you might like to read their comments also.
I shipped with Karman in 2010. I had the unfortunate experience where toship with them they would they would not allow external insurance. Thier insurance policy did not allow for damage on any vehicle over 3 years old and did not cover in case of total loss (where you were required to go to the shipping company). Effectively useless. They required me to sign this when the car was already at the dock and I had no opportunity to change shippers. As such my TVR shipped without insurance.... and I crossed my fingers... tightly.
In terms of the Stratos... BRAVO!!!

Since pestering you all about his some months ago a friend in NZ wants me to look into getting them a 4x4. I've never done it before but are there customs fees and what's the charge for a WOF, does my friend need to get the WOF done as it lands or do you get a week or so to do it?Again thanks for all your advice.
