How did the hot laps go Kylie - George wouldn't say much, and I can't work out why!!!
I will hopefully get out again very soon - Capri should FINALLY be ready to go again this coming week

I took the Tiv out again a week ago - loved it but it it sure doesn't corner anywhere near as well.

Are you going out again anytime coming up?

Hi sorry just got back from being in Rarotonga for 17 days. Glad you got the Capri almost running its such an awesome sports car.

Yeah George was stoked we were doing 1:12's, thats with me on board the bugger is just getting quicker and quicker!! We did two lots of 10 laps each I think and he's getting that thing to go pretty quick alright. I think his driving is really awesome and consistant, consisdering he is still new to the game. Definately left me behind for track time that's for sure.
I will be heading out for the Lotus driver training day on the 29th Aug, just for a hoon and help out as I am on the committee so you should come out.

George is a man of few words but is such a nice guy and Angela is a gem as well. We owe them a few dinners. She has most of my art in her Devonport gallery.

Cheers
Kylie

That's awesome Kylie - and I second all your comments
Yeah - Georges lap times are getting quite awesome - I'm still trying to work out what secrets he has up his sleeve!

I didn't realise you are an artist - what sort of work do you do?
I am certainly looking for some - but quite specific!

I'd love to come out to the track as suggested. I am doing a Rallysprint on Sunday at Pukekohe with Auckland CC - weather permitting, and am really looking forward to that
It will be interesting to see how the car goes (& the driver!)

I noticed that hes carrying more speed through the chicianes (taking more risk I guess).

Painting ahh yes, you can mail me off line if you want to talk about something specific. A sample of my work and my career is here www.kyliesmith.com I pretty much do anything abstract to semi realism, commission work more than welcome price totally neg to suit.
My art dealers are Art Of This World - Devonport and Parnell Gallery, my art has just been to Sydney - July this year.
Hope to see you at the track soon.
Cheers
K

That's awesome work Kylie - I will be in contact "later"

I'm still not sure about Georges secrets - avgas, careful suspension work, chipping?, new tyres - etc!!!

But he certainly is driving awesomely well
I'm looking forward to seeing my times with the changes made. I'm don't seem to have more power - in fact as per teh dyno possibly very lightly less but more even over teh rev range. There was a bit of a problem in the chassis / alignment that is now fixed

Hopefully see you on the 29th

He claims to have the engine stock, but yes hes sorted better springs and running Bridgstone Potenza stickys.
I hope he dosent play with the engine otherwise I am totally left behind

Thinking of getting my engine completely stripped and rebuilt after Taupo sprints in Nov as I am starting to get a bit of blue smoke on a cold start-up, so seems highly likely that there is definately some oil leaking through the seals its done around 74,000 miles. There are a few ponys to be gained but not many, otherwise I risk detonation if I up the turbo boost without added cooling. I have to add a charge cooler for that but I don't want to ruin the original engine by modding it too much. If I can get it close to 300hp on the stocker I will be happy

What dyno results did you get??

I'm maxing out at 136 kw at the rear wheels. There doesn't seem much more to be had as I'm at 100% duty cycle on the injectors according to the tuners. But I have an older dyno chart from the guy I bought the car off showing about 156 kw at the rear wheels. I really don't understand some of the issues!
But from what I can understand with this tuner - this is the best I can get without
- huge boost pressures - which I don't want, and engine longevity is my key especially for the Targa
- major engine change

We'll see
I'm getting some new tyres soon that are meant to be much better than the ones I am running - so that will be interesting as well

I am hoping that George & I will go out again on a public day soon and check some of these things out

I know that George has bought some chips - but he says he is nervous about installing them. I'm still really frustrated that when he had the camera in his car & was filming me around the track - I was maxing along the back straight - he was following me for a while & then planted his foot and passed me effortlessly - very frustrating for vehicles that should have about the same sort of power!!!

I caught up with Geo and Ang today at their art gallery for nibbles and bubbly. I asked him what hes up to with his car, he spoke about the chip but also looking at buying a quicker porsche so I said in frustration that he can't get another car thats quicker otherwise I will be gutted and sulk so hopefully that put him off....not! Oh well looks like I will trade black beauty in for a Esprit V8 if he does...kidding?!?

Hes turning up too on the 29th, so we can all battle it out

It will be great to see you & George on the 29th
But bugger - I won't be in the Capri

I managed to do panel damage on 3 sides today. Still not exactly sure what triggered it - but once it started, I had no control. Along pit lane (part of the course ) lost it, hit the armco on my side, bounced off & hit the armco on the other side, then hit a whole lot of plastic barriers. Managed to hit both the front & back sides of the car on the passenger side
On reflection not a bad 10 pin bowling move!!
Had my youngest daughter in the car - but she's fine - no real impact - except on pride (& pocket)
Could still drive the car home - after a quick wheel alignment at the track
Don't think I've done any chassis damage - well I really hope not anyway

Other than that - not a bad day, but veyr slow, and not nearly enough track time. 79 cars turned out - both as part of a race series, and also lots of Targa guys prepping their cars

Ohhh no!! so sorry to hear about the crash, cars can be repaired or replaced but people can't so am glad you were all ok. Was it wet? We spoke about going out for a look, but looked like pretty crappy weather everywhere so we went carpet hunting for the house instead.
Could it have been possible you got a bit light going over hill part and lost traction with a greasy track? Was it there or further bit down?
I got to say that part of the course gives me no confidence what so ever, and you never really know how hard to push as there is NO option of falling off or you hit the barriers depending on where you lose it.
Oh well hope you get the car back on the track soon.

I was a bit concerned yesterday at some of the consequences. But got a quote today for repairs that I am really happy about - and the Capri should be back ready for the 29th as well. I really need some more seat time in it - especially in the wet.
Yes - it was very wet. Pouring with big puddles. I actually lost it in pit lane where it narrows up before the gates allowing you to cross from the outfield into the pits. Started sliding and hit the armco on the right hand side, then bounced off & hit the armco on the left hand side of the pit lane(bounced around on this & hit both the front & back of the Capri), then carried on sliding into some plastic barriers set up across the pit lane. Managed to break these up pretty well - but they did finally slow me down. Certainly hit them very hard and managed to do quite a bit of damage in this area. The armco hits were more glancing blows - but I managed to damage nearly all the panels!
It all felt very much like you see the crashes on the indy circuit - once the sliding starts there is nothing that you can do - I was just a passenger. Luckily there were no hard impacts

Wow sounded pretty serious alright and now I know where your talking about, that spot must get a few hits on a regular basis as I know of a few other people who have had a big off there too.

I havent done anything that spectactular, only a wee 390 spin on exit from the hair pin. My road tires had gone off and gave it too much pedal too early. Its a really weired feeling having no control at that point and feels like it all goes in slow motion and you wonder when and where your going to stop. Luckily I ended up pointing into the grass long before the first part of the barrier starts.
