Do we talk food on the NZ forum?

Hope so.

For not concentrating hard enough at school I find myself having to spend the next three days in Balclutha, Gore and Oamaru respectively - for those who've heard of these outcrops of South Island (un)civilization do you know of any evening eateries that would pass PH muster?

No offence to any PH'ers who may preside in the aforementioned areas (I think I'm safe).

Left field suggestions welcomed.

A new place has just opened in Gore this week called the Thomas Green which looks nice and claims to be good, though I haven't been myself. Casa Bella is nice, as is The Moth out at Mandeville airfield (10 min from town), which also has an aircraft museum if you're there when its open. Balclutha I have no idea, scrape up some roadkill perhaps?

Flick me a message if you want to grab a beer or have a perve at a turbo MX5 while you're down.

Sorry Ben - no offence meant.

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated.

It's a whistle stop business trip so no beer time on this one I'm afraid.

Didn't you sell the Mazda?

All good, I take the piss out of the place frequently myself!

Its still up on trademe but hasn't shifted yet, lots of people seem interested but want to trade something I don't want!

As a homesick kiwi, can this thread not be a little more focused on what the best pies are in this area? smile

Check out the Steam Punk HQ in Oamaru next to the historic precinct. Make sure you feed the train $2.

Just back.

Balclutha - Angus steak at Rosebank Lodge - pretty good.

Gore - tin of ravioli in my motel room - awful.

Oamaru - Thai basil chicken thing on the main road - forgettable.

Was tired by the time I finished each day and didn't make enough effort to eat well I'm afraid.

Thanks for all the advice though.

Twizel next week, anyone know what/where to eat there?

Wrinkly Ram at Omarama was very nice on sunday if you're passing through that way. Should be a few decent choices around Twizzle too as its a tourist town but I can't remember any names.
