On the back of my 'Should I buy this Clio 197' thread:

What would you suggest instead?

Up to $50k - but could be $20k.
Daily(ish) driver, kept in a carport, I like the versatility of quick hatches and have owned lots - I'm considering RS250 Megane, R32 Golf, Alfa 147 GTA, have had MK5 VW GTI's, RS Clio's, etc.

Am I missing something, maybe more exotic, completely different, all leftfield suggestions welcomed.

That made me laugh Ben.

When bits of my neighbours house were constantly landing in my driveway during the big aftershocks I couldn't imagine a new car being parked there.

I even managed to post a pic of the uprated quad muffler I bought to go on the Scooby in the 'photo of your dinner' thread. DOH!

Still, good call, I paid $46k for that car brand new, lot of performance for the money......

But, not this time.....

What else?

I was gonna suggest a Nissan Skyline GT-R of some sort, but if you're in Chch then it'll probably be stolen as soon as you park it up and walk inside. frown Almost that bad there now with Skylines (i'm never bringing either of mine there and my fiance isn't going to bring her one up there any more).

What about a Porsche Boxster? There's a 2001 Boxster S at Southern Motor Court in Dunedin at the mo for $34,000 i think.

Try this Corvette, http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/used-cars/chevrole...

(there was also a Z06 for sale at West Coast Classics for $44,000 but seems to be sold now).

Hard to know what floats your boat, but here's some that I'd be thinking about if it was me...

Boxster S (not really a convertible fan, but could get a hardtop). TBH if the hairdresser image wasn't a consideration, this would definitely be top of my list...

S2000 (as above)
968 (manuals seem to be very rare though, getting into classic territory for a daily driver)
M3
Cooper S
Elise
Golf-R

Thankyou Mark but no, just no. Even if it wasn't yellow then no.

Good choices Omerta.

I've had the Golf, S2000 and Cooper S, the Elise I would consider but would import a new one. I like Boxsters but I might look like a planker?? An M3 kind of lights me up.
A 968 Club Sport would do me nicely but where do I find that??????

To give a really broad flavour I'm currently looking at a Clio 197, Megane RS250, A Manual Discovery 3, Defender, Elise, 996 Porker, Touareg and I'd like a Clio 200 Cup (not on sale here) a new Elise (ditto) or a Clio V6, or or or........????

I like quick hatches, I wish the Golf R32 revved to 8500rpm and put out 350bhp and the VW GTI wasn't quite so clinical and the Clio RS was 150kgs lighter.

I would go more than $50k for the right car, maybe $100k as I've decided not to build a new house.

Sorry if I've confused anyone.

M3 CSL is a very good call yum Not sure what they go for now but will be within your revised budget for sure. I wouldn't even try to buy one here though with the $ vs £ as it is, much better choice in blighty and you get a bonus 6 weeks of antici......

clapWell done Benbounce

I saw this car 5 years ago on a central city street, all shiny cage and purposeful. I lusted it after it then and still do.

Earlier today, I drove past Armstrong Prestige and saw it on the forecourt.

Then you send me the link.

$65k for cash it is then.

Seems cheap doesn't it???

hehe

Glad to be of service! Thats my jedi powers in action right there.

Well its the cheapest on trademe by a long shot, I'm not in touch with Porsche prices to know why though - possibly harder for them to sell a clubsport with cage/buckets etc?
