Upside:

2008 Clio RS197.
NZ new, one owner, travelled 9k, immaculate order.

Capable little cars, screaming NA engine and delightful chassis, hard to find a poor review of them.
Rarely available, no longer sold new here and this is the only one for sale in NZ at present.

$26k would take it.

Downside:

My driveway is full.
My area of Christchurch has potholes like paddling pools.
I'll have to try it first and it's 1000kms away.
I'll have to sell my Forester 'quake car' and that's gonna be a time consuming pain in the butt.
I'll buy it and then see something else I'd like.

Help.

This one is 4 years older and $21,500 cheaper so as a downside I'm going to arbitrarily decide thats your likely depreciation.

You're always going to see something else you'd like, that's one of the things that makes you a pistonhead! If I had the money and space I'd have dozens of cars.

Let fate decide if you buy it, try selling yours, if the Renault is still available then buy it and enjoy the drive back! Yeah I'm getting a bit sick of the state of the roads, bet the sales of ball joints and shocks is up at the moment.

Dealer called with the line:

"Offer $25k, I'll take it to my boss, you never know"

If the Forester was sold I'd buy it.

I like the deal, NZ new, very late model, only travelled 9k, like new, renowned performance car for 25k.

Other than a set of balls am I missing something?

Possible (cheesy) downside: you'll need to change your Pistonheads name to Roquefort ??

I think Bullit is right about the likely depreciation - if you judge value by what people will actually bid, here's two older models with sale/bid history...

Can't be an easy car to sell in the current climate - I'd be inclined to lead them on a bit and watch the price drop as weeks go by.

I did check expired auctions (very thorough of you to do so too Sir bow) and I'm either in denial - likely - or dismissed them as old, previous generation, high mileage fodder that bear no resemblance to my potential purchase.

It's stickered up at $30k and I believe that $25k will take it. Only a Cooper S appears to come close in terms of bang/fun/ability for my buck..........unless anyone knows better?ears
