With the UK pound at an all time low and some incredible bargains now available - who's tempted to import something quick and shiny?

Of the new stuff I fancy an Elise CR for $50k, a Boxster for $70k or a brand new 911 Carrera for $125k

Or used

Elise S2 $25k or 996 GT3 $75k

You?

Always wanted a Europa Twin Cam Special. There are two mint condition ones for sale that I have been eyeing. Hmmmmm. I will have to evaluate the potential punishment. As long as it's just shy of severe I can handle it.

I'm always looking for the same - having had 2 previously I shouldn't want to do it again...but there is something about them.

and I fancy getting a black cab taxi - there is one on TM for $55k

When I was on my OE waaaaaay back in 2002 a friend of mine picked up a London cab for £300, and it was quite a tidy one too.

Oh and it's easier to get forgiveness than permission, so when it turns up on the driveway tell her you've got a new car, oh and always round down when asked the price, my partner seems to think everything I buy is $100.

Trolling the PH classifieds....

2006 Aston Martin V8 Vantage for $67000
Audi Quattro 20V for $18500
Lotus Esprit GT3 $28000

Of course you'd probably need to get it here and on the road.....

Being unfamiliar with the US market/forex, is it a good time to buy from there? On my wish list I'd like a Corvette C6, Z06 if possible.

Yes indeed, there is something about them. I peek in every garage I drive past in the hope of seeing one in need of a home.

That's sorted then, a Corvette in the US container and a Europa in the UK container. (I'd better get a Panther Kallista as well for the Mrs). What else are we buying?

I've been eying up a US import that's half the price you'd pay here - twin rotors, rear wheel drive, single seater, Honda powered...

Hhhhhmmmm, time to buy a Weigert Vector W8 Twin Turbo then? smile Loved it ever since Gran Turismo 2 on the original PlayStation. Even though it apprently doesn't have the best suspension setup/handling in the world.

Three speed auto and 600hp though...

hehe

I loved the Vector AWX-3 as a kid, updated concept from the W8 which never made production - was back in the early 90s and supposed to have 1000bhp!

It's too cheap John.

By which I mean that shipping, GST, compliance and miscellaneous extras become too high a % of the overall cost on a car in that price range.

Throw a set of Merc discs and pads + a couple of other bits and pieces at it during compliance and the overall import costs could be 1/3 of the total price.

Good luck.

Been talking to a few mates about the next import, yeah certainly a good time, need to bring something in that I love but can sell it easily too. Ideas?

My father just handed over 70K to the states this week to bring back an amazing SoCal built show quality hotrod, will be here in two months I guess. He converted at 84 cents I think. Very cool.

Love another S350 but like hens teeth for anything worthy. Std V8s cheap as chips though, so tempting.........

I am really tempted on that Lotus Europa TCS. The exchange rate is so good. Can anyone provide sanctuary when the S hits the fan?

I would really love to see a few more of these here.... http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/list.asp?p=1&...

It would nice to form a NZ molecule that consisted of a decent number of cars.
