I apologise to those whose topics were removed because of my links - thought they would stay there since they are all well and truley over - but oh well!

15. Cross-post across the forums.

Apparently we've just been getting away with it here in the NZ forum.

And mods, this isn't a personal attack or anything - i'm just letting everyone else know.

Been away and so never had a chance to see the offending ads but just the fallout. Its seems with CRM's thread removed PH admin are certainly enforcing the rule. (Or perhaps out of fear that the English would banish CRM to the fatal shores of OZ as punishment he removed it himself?). What a shame. I liked hearing about the occasional car-related charity events and cheap dyno days. I can see the PH admin's point of view and it makes sense in a country like the UK, where with so many people/events the opportunity for abuse is high. But on the NZ forum, where roughly the same small number of people frequent the site, and where there are few car events in general and that number gets smaller as you move south, I liked hearing about the occasional charity run and dyno day.

Me too, i think it is unnecessary to a point.

Been thinking of starting a topic in Website Feedback and asking them to take a different approach to charity events, in regional specific forums. i.e. If there is irrefutable evidence that a charity run is 100% genuine, and that maybe some PH'ers have even attended before, then it should be allowed.

I dunno. All this makes me want to start up a new club in NZ for owners of fancy cars like ya'll have, but i don't have the time or money to do so.

They need to revise the rules or something, because it seems there are a lot of annoyed people out there and its just getting worse (or i'm just noticing it now).

Yep I agree. Understand there's a problem in more populated forums where the policy makes sense, but when we go for days at a time with no posts frankly anything motor related which isn't outright selling is better than nothing. Don't we have our own local moderator who can manage this instead?

Agreed... with the infrequency of posting in here and the fact that the NZ forum is really just a couple of dozen mates who keep in contact via here, I don't see the harm in it... it's not like we're in anyway connected to Haymarket or anything.

The rules of posting are applied equally across the site, irrespective of the size of the sub forum I'm afraid folks.

It appears that up till now there has been little in the way of moderation in this forum and it doesn't seem to have been causing any problems. Can one of the moderators please explain the benefit to any poster of this sub-forum from this policy being enforced given it hasnt been in the 11 years I've been here prior to yesterday?

All good recieved a nice email explaining why. To be honest I didn't even realize I was rulebreaking when posting even after reading the rules less than 24 hours earlier!

Blame in on my EQ brain.

This is about fair and even application of the rules of posting, across all of PH's sub fora.. It is indeed fair to say that there has been little [need for] moderation in this particular area, however a number of threads were recently brought to the attention of the moderators as they transgressed the RoP..

Just for clarification if you check back over the links you posted only the first one was removed as it was a future event.

The second was a member asking for advice so it needed no intervention from the mods, the remaining six IF you had bothered to check as still live. No point in deletion after the event.

So only one Charity post was removed as a result of you bringing it to our attention.

I just guessed they all had been (internet was playing up by going really slow, so never bothered to check the rest).

Who is the head honcho here who makes all the rules?

The company that owns to site is Haymarket, Stuart Forrest is the director of PH his right hand man and the manager of PH is Paul Garlick.

The moderators do not make the rules they only police and enforce those rules.

HTH answer your question? smile

Also seems during that last couple of days that you have turned a very low moderated forum into a high profile one.

That's three us now commenting on this thread Slinky, Gaz and myself, are you going to keep banging on the door or can we go back to sleep now? smile

Hold up a mo, you are the one who asked for consistency so now that's exactly what you've got. You were offered an editorial for your event but you wanted to have an arguement and a whinge instead. Had you taken Garlick up on his offer not only would you have your charity event but you may have had a feature about it on the main homepage of the site.
Without wishing to enflame the main issue further, it is this offer of an editorial that I thought a little unusual. Why exactly this would be offered when 99.99% of the potential readership was on the other side of the planet?? Very generous offer I suppose given those circumstances.

Aren't some rules meant to be broken? Surely with our small group of readers, these rules don't apply. It is not really promotion of charity or other events for gain, merely a calendar for like minded folks to get together where possible.

Well actually the rules do apply, and while I do break a few rules myself I also like well moderated Forums, and Pistonheads is an enjoyable site.
I am also a firm believer of picking fights you can win, and thinking carefully about the ones that will be hard work.
Trust me, this one will be hard work.
But hey, you go get those dirty moderators if that's your thing!

I'm not looking for a fight, just flexibility. I'm too busy and away from the main centres to actually enjoy some of these events.

Perhaps we can have a topic where these things are announced as meetings without any mention of charity or commercial purpose?
Or can the mods suggest an easy way to directly advise such gatherings.

So if we agree to not post in this thread or make any further discussion of the rules can you agree to carry on ignoring us as has always previously been the case.
