Pukekohe 6hr Endurance Race

The Pukekohe 6hr Endurance race is on this Saturday out at the Pukekohe circuit with a race start time of 2pm.

For those that haven’t been to one before, it’s pretty cool to see the cars racing in the dark; headlights blazing and brakes glowing as the come up over the hill.

I’ve teamed up with Tim James to compete for my first time in endurance racing in his Porsche Boxster S race car. I’ve raced against Tim in the Bridgestone Porsche series and with him in Targa last year in the Boxster. We’ll be sharing a pit garage with seasoned campaigners, Conel Dempsey and Racing Ray Williams in a Porsche 964 twin turbo.

Oh nice, i remember watching a few of these on TV and have about two or more races on VCR. Love the variety of cars that compete in the 6hr.

Do you know where the sun sets (more specifically than in the West ) this time of year?

Just wondering where it will hit you the worst. Coming over the hill, or Jennian, or somewhere else?

mmmmmm - along with the rain, big lights, huge speed differentials whats a little sunstrike for a few laps (gulp)

The sun strike is bad at sunset as the sun sets on the crest of the hill before the main straight. Following another car up over the hill at 160kph plus, blind without lifting your foot is unnerving

Yeehaa........ absolutely bloody awesome. Finished 3rd in class and 6th overall and completed 280 laps - man that was fun (after the fear subsided). This Boxster is a pretty cool race car, this season it has competed in 3 Targas, all NZGT and Bridgestone Rounds in IRC and now a 6hr enduro!!

Well done George & thanks for the vid. The sunstrike looked pretty bad. Was the error just a dip in concentration? I don't know Pukekohe except for the one time I did it in Targa but was that a too-early turn in?

Maybe just got a little wide and on the edge of the marbles and couldn't hold on to it, so bailed rather than loop it. The left rear was absolute toast after 6hrs.
