I am a soft southern coming to work in NI for the next 10 weeks.

Everything is ooked and packed. But i think 10 weeks of hotel food could get a little boring.

Is there any recommendations of any nice local restaurants i could eat in rather than prop up the hotel chains finances.

Also I only in a hire car, but i still want to get out and sample some of the NI roads in the early evening. Are there any good roads south of Omagh that any one would recommend. I have already driven around the Sperrins a few times and ventured across to Donegal.

Thanks

Where abouts in NI... I know it is small but no point recommending a restaurant in Newry if you are staying in Portrush!

Spelling where you're staying would be useful too - Omagh (ohm ah) is easier to get directions to if you get lost, than Omgah (Ohm gah), which will only receive blank stares, and wondering which planet you descended from!

But the next fwe weeks will be the end of my 3.5 years parttime work in NI.

Not sure about the restaurants, but would recommend checking out 'Main Street' on a Saturday night, its a street of the main street that they close off, has several bars that you can walk between and an outdoor stage and bar, weather permitting. As for driving roads, Fermanagh's probably worth a drive on a Sunday, plenty of lakes etc...

As you've a hire care no doubt you'll be keen to explore. My favourite's are:

Vanilla, Castle Street, Omagh
La Gondola (Italian) market Street, Omagh
Oyster's in Strabane Co. Tyrone
The Coach Inn and Bar, Railway Terrace, Omagh

Belfast
The Apartment pub/restaurant beside the City Hall Belfast. No bookings, just turn up.
Made in Belfast - theme restaurant just around the corner from the Apartment
CoCo - Linenhall Street Belfast
Ginger - Hope Street Belfast
James Street South, James Street South, Belfast
Dean's - Wellington Place Belfast (if you fancy blowing some cash)
All the above are within just to the south of the City Hall...easy to find.
Tedfords, Donegall Quay, belfast ...the best fish oriented restaurant in the whole of ireland
Elsewhere
The Harbour Bar/Ramore Wine Bar - Portrush
The Plough - pub/restaurant in Hillsborough Co. Down

personal favourite...the Plough in Hillsborough and the Apartment and CoCo in belfast. Get through that lot and enjoy yourself while you are here. Checkout www.Tripadvisor.co.uk and search northern ireland restaurants which gives a pretty good overview.

Thanks stubbled across vanilla last week. Will be going back this week.
