Hey guys...

I know that this is not the normal thread on this sub-forum but I thought I would put some feelers out, just in case!

I am after a 996 Turbo and not seeing a whole lot of action. There are plenty on the mainland but I have only seen two in NI in about the last 3 months. The two I saw were in Lisburn but I am inclined to keep searching. Does anyone know of any which are for sale or may be soon?

Please give me a shout if you do!

Thanks

I've got one & your right, they are like hens teeth in NI. I just got lucky that there was a good one for sale privately with a Porsche warranty.
You may have to source it across the water.
You won't get better fun for the money!

I want to give it a shot, locally, because the size of the place means that you tend to know someone who knows someone and then you can find out just how they treated the car, talk to the specialist who has been looking after it...

Failing that, I'll probably end up with one of the specialists across the water!

Hollybrook should be able to give the full history of their cars. Both look nice.

The Hollybrook cars just did not jump out at me so I am keeping my options open.

If the two at Hollybrook didn't jump out at you then what spec are you after?
Different colour, mileage?

I would love a bit of colour... black (or near) appeal less than the silver and grey. Fewer miles would be nice as well, I was hoping for lowish 40k.

I am only just at the start of this search, I may well find myself back haggling with Hollybrook but want to see all the options first!

Thanks

There seem to be a few over the water at specialists in yellow, blue etc.
Do you not fancy a 996 GT3 instead as it should hold its money longer for a wee bit more outlay.
I like them in seal grey, but personal choice.
GT3 in a wilder colour though
good luck with the hunt

Hey,

The GT3 has sat on my mind but the truth is that it would be utterly wasted. When I do eventually get onto a track, I would not be taking the GT3 on there!! I would be buying it basically to try and save my money in the long term when the turbo is probably a better car for me in terms of lazy performance and comfort (the gf is dismayed enough by my boxster with pse... she would ditch me if I had a GT3!). Of course there is always the cost factor... it would be yet another £5k and that would only get me into the lower end. So if a great one comes up at £35k... someone might persuade me into it... but that is unlikely and that means the turbo will be my friend!

I am already keeping a watch on the likes of RJS, JZM etc. because they have such great reputations for cars in tip top mechanical and cosmetic condition. There is a gorgeous polar silver car at RJS but it is a tip... I know that I am lazy but, until I drive a tip and am convinced that it is not a dog (I had a 987 tip loaner last year and i was left wondering whether there was time dilation going on between my foot going down and the engine responding!), I feel some silly manly need for a clutch pedal!

All the best

When I was getting mine of course colour was a huge factor. I went for Seal Grey & the wheels are slightly smoked ie. not plain silver which makes a massive cosmetic difference. imho they do not look as good in silver or black. There is a navy which is nice though.......

Have you been down to holybrook? that silver one with 46k is truly mint. you'll go a long way to find a nicer one on the mainland for anything like the money, add in the cars known history and george mcmillen doing the work/pre check I think you would be silly to go across the water unless you really knew what you we're buying. The last 996tt I bought was from rsj and had a few problems that we're hard to sort due to the distance thing. Got them sorted eventually and it turned into a good car but I would say these cars need to be bought very carefully.

The arctic silver just does not get me jumping up and down! Almost anything else and I would have been right there! I may yet be persuaded, I just want to give at least a few weeks to give the chance of something more exciting showing up!

Personally my favourite color in the Turbo and 4s is red, and its quite rare too.

Red is fantastic, I agree! I have only seen one for sale recently but it would be just too expensive I am afraid frown

Is that the wrapped one? I agree that it looks fantastic but, short of removing the wrap... how would you know what lurks beneath?

ps. silver hollybrook car is sold now.... probably just as well else I might have ended up with a colour I really did not want!

Red interior.... hmmm. It might work in that car (to my mind) but you are definitely right if you have any mind towards resale. It seems that anything other than black or metropole blue are really tough to shift.

Does that not strike you as a bit of a 'no-no'? What is wrong with having a 996 and accepting it is a 996?
